converting form 3/4 to 1/2 ton front suspenion q's??

i'm looking to convert my 3/4 ton 68 chevy 2wd to 1/2 ton suspension. what's my best bet for the front? all of the control arms are pretty scaley so I plan on buying new ones. will the 1/2tons bolt onto the frame with no modification? i would think if they did that would be the easiest way.

thanks, Dave

If you can fund the whole front crossmember from a newer truck with disk brakes you can bolt it right up to 72 I believe. Anything later is pretty much a bolt in ,but you do have to drill some holes but im not sure which ones they would be..

Depends on what type of wheel pattern your looking for, 5 lug or 6... If your wanting to go 5, then the easiest method would be swapping in the complete front cross member from a 73-87 rig. This gives you disk brakes up front and lower prices for replacement parts such as ball joints and such. What are you going to do with the rear? Is it leaf or coil sprung?

I did the 3/4 to 1/2 ton swap on my 68 but I wanted to keep it looking like a 68 with the 6 lug rallys. I had collected various parts here and there including the rear trailing arm cross member, arms, etc. I love the coil sprung suspension...

good luck
