Re: Hei spark but no start
Did you just replace the original points distributor with the HEI unit and then the problem started...or has the HEI been working and then stopped suddenly...

Re: Hei spark but no start
Need for info. Not much do go on there.
How did you check for spark? Is it getting fuel? What engine?

Re: Hei spark but no start
Well if you've got spark then you're missing fuel or compression... gotta be one or more of the three!

Re: Hei spark but no start
As Mark said, Spark Fuel Compression.
Spark at the right time also helps so if the point distributor was replaced by HEI, look into that. Fuel? Fresh fuel also helps... Compression? All cylinders similar pressure helps too... Bill

Re: Hei spark but no start
It has spark, good gas, and good compression. It will sputter a little right as I start cranking then nothing. I replaced the hei distributor that was already on the truck

Re: Hei spark but no start
Why did you replace the original HEI distributor? Same issue ?
This sounds like a bad ignition switch...bypass the switch or try another switch... I have seen these ignition wiring plugs melt at the back of the switch... I know you have checked timing...maybe time to start again from basics... Bring cyl 1 to TDC on compression...make sure rotor is aligned with correct cap port for cyl 1... BTW...was this truck originally a standard points style distributor? You do know if it was the power wire drops voltage down and needs to be replaced when you install HEI... |

Re: Hei spark but no start
Would the HEI be connected to original coil wire? Voltage would be low but would have spark and perhaps not start.

Re: Hei spark but no start
Gas squirting from the squirters? Get a can of spray B12 , open the throttle, shoot some down its throat, crank.

Re: Hei spark but no start
It sounds like you just replaced the HEI dizzy. 9- outta 10 times if a new symptom arrives immediately after doing something like that, then that part or installation is the culprit. If you had access to another dizzy, that would be a quick dbl check of the "new" Hei. It's easy to "overthink" things, I do it all the time. Start simple, at the beginning. And why was the HEI replaced? Symptoms?
