Project: Turbo 250
So here it is my first build thread.... So day 1 stats
2 Guys 8 hours 1 '67 Chevy C10 8 Beers 2lbs Venison Steaks 2- 20" Sub Sandwiches The truck is down to a rolling chassis.... The cab is in the upstairs garage and the rolling chassis is back down in the downstairs shop. I cant express how nice it is to buy a one owner truck that never seen salt and was garage kept.... It is definitely worth paying a few extra dollars for especially when all of the bolts come right out with out busted knuckles all of them except the coil spring bolts in the rear so we just cut out the springs instead. I only get one day per week to work on this so it will be once a week that I post updates and photos. Plans for Day 2 include pulling the engine and trans and power-washing the entire thing so that it is grease free for when I sand blast which is the plan for Day 3. |

Re: Project: Turbo 250
OJ 1988- I plan on eventually pulling a Cattle trailer occasionally...I dont plan on pulling more than 10000 lbs (trailer wt+cargo) It will just be nice to have a truck with a plate.

Re: Project: Turbo 250
According to the Window Sticker it is Vermillion Metallic-Paint code 515 and the interior is Fawn- Paint Code 600. My sister likes the color... Personally I dont care for it.

Re: Project: Turbo 250
I've thought about doing a turbo 6 for a while now. Glad to see someone doing it. We'll just keep calling it Becky.

Re: Project: Turbo 250
I need to take the time to lay out all the parts and take a couple of photos... Tom Lowe who lives an hour and a half west of me has been of great help so far in the process of making sure I am doing the right things/getting the right parts with the turbo build and he is doing the machining on my head and crankshaft as soon as I get it out.

Re: Project: Turbo 250
So here is my predicament I just degreased and powerwashed my framerail today and turns out what I thought was surface rust was just grime and 85% of the rail is still covered in the factory paint. The other 15% not covered I either power-washed off when I got to close or is light surface rust and could be hand-sanded off. SO.... I already own the equipment and material to sandblast the entire frame and I already have POR-15, Do I take the time and blast the frame and take off the factory paint and start from bare metal and then POR-15 it, or do I just sand the factory paint to scuff it up and sand off any of the remaining rust and POR 15 the frame? Any thoughts or other ideas. On a side note it is not in my budget to pay someone to powder coat the frame as nice as that would look...

Re: Project: Turbo 250
Looks like I will be pulling the motor and trans and all the lines off on thursday night and Blasting on Friday! Which leaves Sat to Paint! Found out from POR- that it will not properly stick to the other paint, and as long as I use the metal ready (phosphoric acid) it will bond nicely to the bare metal.

Re: Project: Turbo 250
Took my head and crank over to Tom Lowe today to get machined... and taking the block in to a local shop on mon. Hopefully this motor can be back together before November. The blasting and painting didnt happen this weekend as planned because the professors laid the homework on thick but oh well there is always another weekend.

Some photos of how things are going, and I had to mock up the turbo manifold to see how it was going to look!

Re: Project: Turbo 250
Finally figured out what individual parts I need to build my own brake kits so I dont have to pay for someone else to do the research and put a kit together for me! All said and done...including McGaughy's drop spindles and shipping I have a complete front and rear set up with cross drilled and slotted rotors semi metallic pads D52 front calipers, eldorado rear calipers (I need the e-brake), All the lines cables bearings ect... Everything should be in next week I cant wait to get it!

Cool. I'm in the middle of a 250 turbo set up. Probably wont have time to get it running for a while though.

Re: Project: Turbo 250
I'm thinking about doing this too and in the research/planning/dreaming phase. Except i think i'm going to go with Megasquirt and a junkyard TBI setup.
Where did you get that exhaust manifold from?
