Red accented lower 67 - 68 side molding?
I have seen a handful of '67 and '68 trucks with red accented side moldings. Most of the ones, I've seen and GMC's, but I have seen a Chevy done this way. The pics below are a '68 GMC and the red paint is factory to the best of my knowledge. The other pic of a '67 Chevy, but I would the builder did this one.
Was this a GMC only thing? Was it part of a certain package?

Re: Red accented lower 67 - 68 side molding?
Well, after seeing that black '67 Chevy on this board, I can see that moldings and emblems are air-brushed, so I know for sure that one is not original now!

Re: Red accented lower 67 - 68 side molding?
I think it was original on certain packages, maybe 67-68 "custom" ???
Here are a couple pics from a 67 custom, family owned by 67cheby since new I think. Truck was originally black.

My 67 GMC has original red in the moulding. It is a custom but unsure if that means anything.

So this seems to be more common than I thought.

Re: Red accented lower 67 - 68 side molding?
I believe the red trim was a "GMC only" item.

Re: Red accented lower 67 - 68 side molding?
This is my 68 Custom... under the black tape is the original red paint. This truck is a two owner and im sure its never been changed, so maybe chevy had it as well.

Re: Red accented lower 67 - 68 side molding?
It seems to be a Custom thing for sure. There was a green '68 Chevy LWB here in town years ago that had them too. It stands out on my because the red popped off the green. It appeared to an original, unrestored truck, but I don't know that.

Bumping this back up.
Has anybody else ran across the red trimmed moldings?

Re: Red accented lower 67 - 68 side molding?
My truck is a 1968 GMC 910 original paint 503 Light green with the red stripe. It is not a "custom", but did have the side moulding option. It is an original GM of canada documented truck.
I have seen other GMCs in canada wiht black or white stripes depending on the color But i do not recall ever seeing a Canadian Chevy C10 with factory Red stripe |

My unmolested '68 Chevy "Custom Sport Truck/Custom Camper" molding inserts are Red. I am the second owner. The SPID just lists "Side Trim Mold EQ". LockDoc

Re: Red accented lower 67 - 68 side molding?
I have seen a fair amount of gmcs with the red stripe, and a few others with black or white. Don't recall off hand how many were chev or gmc or custom optioned or not.

Hey Jamie, just go ahead and paint your molding red. Then you can paint wheels red too. Red goes with any color.
