a few year ago i had a straight rustfree bed with top and bottom trim couldn't sell for one hundred so i scrapped it

Depends on supply and demand. Here in SoCal, I see rust free long beds all the time for cheap, many of them being used as trailers with decent tailgates.

around kansas, they are typically $300 for ok conditon and $400-500 in excellent, give or take a little bit.
