20's Or 15's?????

I Have A 1972 Chevy Long Bed That I Recently Aquired And I Can Not Make Mind Up, I Want To Improve The Look Of This Truck And Can Not Decide On Stock 15" Rims Or Get A Nice Set Of Chrome 20" Rims And Lower The Truck..if I Stay Stock, What Size Of Tire Should I Go With? Any Comments Would Be Greatly Appreciated. Thank You...

Well, the nice thing is that they bolt on. It would look equally nice IMO with the 15's or 20's. Just a matter of personal prefference. Try lowering it slightly with the 15's and see how you like it. If it doesn't suit you, then get the 20's...

Welcome to the board from Virginia!!!! I say split the difference more or less and get either a 17" or 18". Not too big/not too small. Look good with a 2/4 drop or a 4/6. Don't look out of place with stock trim, and look good with a fully modified ride.......Jerry

I agree, any bigger is too cartoonish for me. Everybody has their own opinion though. It's all about what YOU want. I like them with 15s, 17s, and 18s, but the tire size makes all the difference too.

i don't like the larger wheels ro me they look too cartoonish. 17's would be about as big as i'd care to go

I personally don't like anything larger than a 17, to me, anything larger just doesn't look right. Below is a pic of tim's truck that he just finished. I think the 17's on it look perfect with the lowering job.

I was dead set on nothing bigger than 18's before I tried a set of a customer's 20's so 20's for me. It has settled a whole bunch with the engine now installed. IMHO, the profile of the tire has a whole lot to do with how larger wheels look. These are 275 45's

those look great. tires looks like a 40 series or maybe even a 35... The biggest problem with 20's is that you will never get traction. 18's is the largest size you can get a drag radial in and they work really well if you heat them up a little (305/45/18 nitto drag). Don't know if this will be any concern for you or not but if you are putting any kind of power behind one of these trucks you WILL be traction challenged

No that pic is from last year. I did a little more work on the suicide doors, then when my son was born I put her up on dollies and pushed her in the corner of the garage for the past 15 months.
I'll get her back out some day. No hurry, truck will be there forever, my son is only little once.
I just have to have my truck done by the time my son is 12, cause I have this car waiting in the wings for him and I to build. He will have the coolest car in school.

I agree, the tire size makes a big difference. 20s look much better with a shorter tire in my opinion, but still, not for me. Here are a couple of pics of Brave Dave's truck with 17s. I hope he doesn't mind me posting them.

I think it depend on what style you are leaning toward. If you are going with current trends then stick with 20s. For me I may go with a serious drop and 15 chrome moons with out the moon and some wide whites and mabe even a bullet center cap.

I like both 15" and 20" as well as everything in the middle. To me it's more about what look are you after ( more modern vs. more classic ) not saying you can't mix the two, the lines are more blurred now than ever.
Pick a wheel design that will not be out of date or style in a few years reguardless of size, lets face it big wheels are here to stay. Me i just dropped my truck and the 15"s look great but so would 17" 18"or 20". So take your time and decide on whats right for you...
