Edelbrock air-gap = Permastar or polished.

I’m looking at getting a Edelbrock intake (air gap) but canr decide on a finish.
Does anyone have the smoke colored (permastar) finish? How do you like it? (got any pictures?) I think it will look great, but I’m worried about how it’s going to hold up. (spilled gas etc)
If I go with polished, does it require allot of maintenance? Seems it will last forever and can always be polished again whereas the permastar can’t if it gets f’ed up then there’s nothing I can do about it.
I don’t really want to have to polish the intake all the time either.
Please let me know, I want to order this before the wife changes her mind! Lol
Also the price is going up next month.

I don’t think yours ever gets dirty Mark; it looks super-clean every time I see it!
I’d be willing to bet you’d keep in the living room if the wife would let you! lol
Looks cool, I hope mine is that nice when I’m done.

Re: Edelbrock air-gap = Permastar or polished.

Here is the pictures, you really cant see the dark shine of the permastar finish that good. But I imagine it will look real nice (while new) on the engine, complimenting the black components nicely.

Re: Edelbrock air-gap = Permastar or polished.

both look very sweet. and they both have the dual mounting flange thats wonderfull. you can mount any carb you want and never have to change intakes. i can't remember how many intakes i changed just to try a different carb.. if we only had them back then..maybe they did i was just to stupid to know better. hind site is 20/20

I personally would not go with either, If you don't want to keep up with the polishing. I would go rage'nrat638's way or as cast is for me. I have a Harley, thinking about doing away with that bling bling. Can't stand polishing.

The more I think about it, the polished sounds better. In the long run it’s going to be just as nice. Where as the permastar my not be so good. I can always polish a shine on the one.
I just don’t want to have to clean/polish it all the time. It’s probably like the aluminum valve covers- do they need allot of attention?

My dad did his car all chrome and polished alum. says hell never do it again. Polished Alum. is a little better IMO but still takes maintenace. Polish it one way look at it another and theres another blemish. !@%#!

Re: Edelbrock air-gap = Permastar or polished.

I think you need to check with Edelbrock on this one. I would personally get the permastar one myself. Edelbrock says it has powdercoated durability so I would assume the finish will stay for a long time. I'm actually staying away from alot of polished aluminum in my 68. It's still not gonna be easy to keep clean, but it'll beat polishing everything.

I'll personally never have anything but stock in a DD anymore.

Here is mine it's the Performer EPS with permastar finsh and I love it. you can clean it with windex and a soft cloth. I think it is the only way to go if you want shiny intake.

Have you had it very long?? Looks like it pretty shinny! The one you got have the dark tint to the shine?

Re: Edelbrock air-gap = Permastar or polished.

that pic is from when i put it on last spring, it looks as good today as it did then. I might have 500-600 miles on it . you will not be disappointed at all with it. Yes it is a darker finish, but honestly i can't tell much if any differance in it and some of the billet parts on my engine.

Re: Edelbrock air-gap = Permastar or polished.

Having gone the polished route I will never do it again. You drip a little gas & it will discolor it.It is a MAJOR pain to polish while on the motor. My son has a Permastar on his 72 & it looks great in my opnion. When it's under the hood it does not really look all the smoke finished. As far as how long it lasts...don't know it's not finshed painted & running yet.The Edelbrock web site says what all you can use to clean it. Just my 2 cents.

I vote Permastar for all the reasons above...

Re: Edelbrock air-gap = Permastar or polished.

I have had the Permastar for two years now on two different motors. Maybe 3 years. I can't remember. Can't beat it. I just wipe it off and it hasn't stained anywhere. I don't really have a very good picture of it.
