lowering question

fellow chevers, I am stumped. My truck a 76 stepside was bought from someone already lowered, after lots of tracking down I discovered that the previous owners did a flip on the rear and cut 1 1/2 inch out of the front spring, no I am actually doing a full resto on this truck and upon tearing apart the front end I have come to discover that the spring is loose inside the upper and lower arms, is this ok? My question about this would be that if I was driving down West Virginia roads (bad, bad roads) wouldn't that spring bounce around alot. Also, while I have your attention I guess that I should mention the the previous owners also set the rear end above the leafs (a flip..right?) Is this ok, any help would be much appreciated, thanks!!!

You mean to say the coil is flopping around when the truck is on the ground? If so, no, this is not OK. When I jack my truck up the 1.5" drop coils will come out of the top control arm a little but it doesn't flop around.

On the flip, how did he do it? Is it done correctly? You have some close up pics of it?

no, when it's jacked up it will rattle around, I just didn't know what the deal was, I was thinking if I hit a bump it would wear out the a-arm, just wondering if this is a good idea or not, I'm not sure if I have a better picture to be honest with you, but i'll look around.

from what i can see, it looks like he had the spring perches rewelded on the bottom of the axle, which should be fine. you will want to run some shock extenders and possibly some drop shocks along with them.

unless of course he wants to go stock, at which point he can cut em off, and weld em back where they go.

As an observation...those two crossmembers on TOP of the frame...only stepsides have that, right?

No, Fleets have them too, they are just welded to the bottom of the box. On stepsides they are bolted through the wood.

The rear flip is perfectly fine. and if I am reading it correctly on the front springs that the move when the truck is lifted only, then you are fine there also.
