*BEWARE* 1969 Chevy Short Bed F/S on C/L

I wanted to warn people about this. I was looking through craigslist and found my old truck. This was the first truck I bought a few years ago and ended up in a lawsuit over it. The truck is badged and titled as a Chevrolet, however the the vin on the title matches the glove box door ONLY. The metal vin plate riveted on the inside door jam shows it as a GMC with the VIN CE10DZA28756. I bought it from a very reputable dealer thinking everything was ok, then I received the title in the mail and noticed the discrepancy. Long story, short.........I had to get a lawyer, they bought the truck back from me and have apparently sent it through auction, and on to the next un- suspecting person.

have you notified the dealer who has it for sale? They might not even know it.

I'm on the fence about that..........I have thought about it, but don't know if I want to get mixed up with it all over again. The long version of the story is not posted here. It took me over a year and some sleepless nights to get my money back. I'm not sure what the "right" thing to do is for the situation.

There is a good lesson here: Everything should match. The title, stamped frame number and vin tag with original "star" rivets. Then you can sell a truck anywhere and pass all DMV inspections.
If you change cabs or frames, get a good complete bill of sale with the VIN # listed. Get the title or at least a copy of the title with the seller's name listed as the owner on the title. Check with DMV BEFORE you buy/build a truck to make sure you have the right paperwork for them to inspect and re-issue a new title for a "built" truck.

Lynnfield,

The only reason I said that was because if this used car dealer doesnt know, they will sell it to an unsuspecting truck enthusiast that will be getting what you got and maybe never know it until he tries to sell it. I know if I wanted to buy that truck, I would definately want to know.

Clyde, I understand your point, I also believe that a car dealer of all people should know the title needs to match the vin on the riveted tag either on the dash or door post. It's that way on all vehicles. I have noticed that dealership has a couple of these trucks for sale. I want to make sure you know the comment I left yesterday at 11:43 was not a response to your earlier comment.

Update.......I decided to contact the dealer about this, and they did not know about the discrepancy.

So............Clyde, you were right.

Thanks, Greg

That tells me they dont care! so Thanks lynnfield, I sure hope no one buys this truck. I believe when it is sold the owner signs something stating to the best of their knowlege there are no known issues with the title. I could be wrong but I think that is right.

Re: *BEWARE* 1969 Chevy Short Bed F/S on C/L

someone contact the Texas DMV he will loose his dealer licence...It is wrong to sell a truck with the wrong vin ..that doesn't match the title..

Have them go check it out..Even the auction it went through will be in trouble too..

Re: *BEWARE* 1969 Chevy Short Bed F/S on C/L

Remember the game "Old-Maid". All they are looking to do is to move the problem to someone else.

Good advice above:
1) VIN plate should have original rivets.
2) SPID should match VIN plate/title.
3) Partial VIN on frame should match.

someone should stop by and pretend to be interested and see if they play it off or be legit about it.
