1960 chevy parkwood wagon!

I put together an awesome 1968 c10 and drove it on the power tour this year then just sold it. I did not keep good records of the build and i wish that i did. Now i have this 1960 parkwood and and going to try to keep a nice build record of it here. I bought it off ebay and have had it for a couple of months. I have not done much to it other than taking the fuel tank out and having it renewed. it is still out. I have put together a small plan of attack on the car and just placed a pretty large order with summit racing, and also one of our best vendors on this board Travis at Properformance. Travis has been a huge help and answered lots of questions. I will try to keep pictures coming as i know thats what everyone wants to see along the way. Just one pic now for a teaser.

Hey thanks for checking it out. Are you the member that does steering columns? I may need some work done on the column on this wagon, is that something you can do?

I know everyone loves pics so here is more showing what i am starting with.

Yes I can do. I recently had a chance to buy this 1 owner 64 wagon. It was a good deal but they just don't have the looks of a 59 - 62 so I didn't pull the trigger

That looks like a real nice wagon, and one owner probably would have sold me on it. But you are right, the 64 does not have as much style as a 59-62.

Let me know what you charge and whats involved in the rebuild/repair of the column. Its a non tilt, has been painted already by previous owner, but the shift mechanism, and turn signal assembly seem loose, may have some play in the bearings also.

I got some of my parts in and will get some pics up soon.
Stay tuned, this car is going to be fun.

Re: 1960 chevy parkwood wagon!

Fuel tank was full of rust, and you cant buy a 59-60 wagon tank. SO i had this one "re-new" performed. It was boiled out and liquid lined on the inside and out. Turned out great, new fuel sender and a new section of hose. Fired up easy after adding a few gal of gas, and the fuel gauge now works!!

Re: 1960 chevy parkwood wagon!

The 59 were 20x9 1/2 with 5" backspace 265/35/20 and 20x8 5" back with 235/40/18's. You can go larger...my old 60 with 20x10 5 1/2" back 275/35/20 in back and 20x8 1/2 with 5 1/2" back with 245/35/20 in front. I ended up putting 18's back in front..i think staggered fitment looks better on the old cars. Your making me want to find another wagon!

Re: 1960 chevy parkwood wagon!

No real updates so far, i have piles of parts but have been unable to work on it for a while. Kids just went back to school and i should be getting back on the wagon soon. Though a side job project may hold me up for a little while.

Re: 1960 chevy parkwood wagon!

Glad to see the disc brake stuff, makes it a real viable vehicle. Drum brakes are just too dangerous.
I don't know your plans, a small block 400, dressed to look like the 283 would be cool...

Re: 1960 chevy parkwood wagon!

Not much to see but it needed done. Went to replace the thermostat and found no thermostat in it, no wonder it never came up to temp, and it seemed like it was just water in the system, very rusty. Anyway, i installed a new thermostat and put in new coolant. It came up to temp quickly and stayed there. I am happy, the new coolant quickly turned rusty so i am going to get some flush chemical to see if i can clean it up some.
