'63 Long Bed to Short Bed

I understand that there is an article out there that gives the specifics on cutting the frame to make a long bed short.

I picked up a roached out '63 Fleetside Longie and need the pain of another project. But I'd rather not source a new frame the way I did with my '72.

So, if anyone has the experience, or knows where the article is "parked", I'd appreciate any tips or direction.

Thanks.

Re: '63 Long Bed to Short Bed

Somebody just did this in the last couple months on here and took some decent pics too. I think the measures are 12'' out of the front and 8'' out of the rear......cant remember the thread.

Re: '63 Long Bed to Short Bed

I did this a couple of months ago. I took 12 inches out of the frame in front of the wheels and 8 to 8 and a half out of the back of the frame. I did the bed the same way 12 and 8, the only reason i took more out of the frame in the back was because i wanted a tighter gap between the bed and the cab. if you have your cab off you can stagger the cut so it looks like a z, but i had my cab on so i did a straight cut, and boxed the frame there. it only took a weekend to do. good luck.

Re: '63 Long Bed to Short Bed

Check out my thread. I did the same cuts on a 66. I'd be happy to answer any questions and point you in the right direction.
