Re: Front Air Bags on a 66

If your rear has airbags then you should know the drill .The front while a lil more involved are as simple as a spring change, the adapter plates are avalible all over the place. My only segestion is to run good shocks ,a set from a 63-82 vette will work insted of a drop shock and you will have a greater selection.you should also replace your ball joints and any other high wear items while your front end is apart Ive seen ball joints and complete tie rod end sets for as low a 90 bucks and a set of kyb gas adjust are about 40 bucks apiece.you will thank me latter.

Are you looking for something simple and budget oriented? The most economical route is a set of upper plates and lower bag cups. The upper plates bolt on to your factory crossmember, and the lower cups bolt to the bottom of the bag, and then set in the lower control arm's spring pocket. If you're looking for the more expensive route, you can purchase some cnew control arms that are set-up for an air bag.

Re: Front Air Bags on a 66

I bought my 66 bagged. But im redoing the whole set up. im tearing it apart right now. I pulled the motor out today and it goes to the machine shop tomarrow. Then i start tearing apart the front end. I bought new lower arms made for bags, and new bags from airbagit.com. But like a slacker, i forgot to take any pics today. i will take a few as the project progresses.

The air bag system you guys are using is it on the original chassis? What are some good web sites to purchase airbag systems?

You may want to look around, there are vendors on this site, but I used Suicide Doors for the brackets and bags.

Re: Front Air Bags on a 66

So how much did your air system run you? I looked at ridetech.com and their full system runs about $5,300. I’m not sure I want to spend that much. If they all run that much I might go with the air shocks all around. What ya think about air shocks?

Re: Front Air Bags on a 66

GG....you can cut at least a 1/2'' off that lower cup before installing it. I did with no issues and gets a little lower in the front. Skip it if you need hite...your truck is lookin' low to begin with.

Re: Front Air Bags on a 66

i'm going though airbagit.com for the supplies to rebuild my front end. I should have my shipment in tomarrow. I will post a comment on the quality of the goods. New lower control arms (complete), new 2600 air bags, new 4 way air valve system, and a 1 way air check valve, with shipping ran me $1002.00. I've been on the phone and email them several times now and have great responces.

Re: Front Air Bags on a 66

what would arms do? What type of bags do you have and what is their min and max size when aired out and fully inflated? Are they bags fully compressed when laid out? that may be where you are losing lift. I think Slam 7's have like 7-8" of lift which should be more than enough for anything to get off the ground safely.

Re: Front Air Bags on a 66

Yeah what ever happened with this truck? Mines finally on the road. Low as hell. Hit my tubular lower a-arms on every thing. But I love how low it sits. Love my 2600 bags in the front. Now I want some more for the back. But it will have to wait.
