anteanna question
I shaved the anteanna on my 67 truck recently, and need some suggestions on how to hide the anteanna and still get good reception. I've tried to solder a wire on the anteanna base, and ground it to the firewall, but it barely picks up any stations. Is there any way to hide the anteanna in the cab, and still pick up decent? the radio had great reception utill i shaved the anteanna . Money is tight, so cheaper is better
any help would be greatly appreciated, thanx, Johnny

people were talking about one of those aftermarket antennas that fold up and down, and they stick them to the underside of the dash so there is no visible antenna but you still get good reception. maybe one of them can chime in

I bought an antenna for 5 to 7 dollars at an autoparts store and right now it's lying on the floor under the seat. My reception is pretty good! I'm going to mount it somewhere just don't know where yet. I had a frenched antenna spot where the gas filler was, but couldn't get tit to stop leaking so I shaved that also.

I found this the other day,and thought I'd give it a shot on my 49,so I won't have to drill a hole for it.Maybe it will do the job.I haven't tried it,and know nothing about it,other than I like the idea of a hidden antenna

Pull the cowl panel and mount the ant underneath it horizontally.

get some cool loud pipes so you wont want to hear a radio.
a cheap fix would be like you tried but this is how I believe it should be done. the center conductor should be un-grounded (this is where the radio waves come in) & the outter wire (shield) should be grounded (this is to eliminated any unwanted interference).

somewhere i have seen one that is a sticker that fixes around the edge of the windshield, kinda like the later model trucks where it was in the windshield but this was for a universal application.

Can't really remember how good it worked though. It's like a piece of scotch tape with one small single wire in it.

I just did the same thing, I bought a Powered ant. on E-bay,( a couple of months ago) I posted about it here and on M.O.T. forgot the specifics on it but do a search.. ( if I remember I can check my PayPal acct. to see whom I payed for it) $30. some, and it goes to the battery for power, I live in a rural area, I received no stations without an ant. and only three with my stock one in it's stock location.. Now I get a lot, and they're clear.
I played with the positioning and found above the windshield behind the Visors worked the best for me.... |
