What rear end should i use in my 1970 chevy c10 swb?
I am 18 years old, currently on my second restoration. I bought this 1970 chevy c10 with a 454 in it. I am send the motor out to get built, looking at 650-800hp. It will be just a pro street truck. No drag racing will be done with it but I would like to know if anyone has any suggestions on complete rear end asemblys to use. Or possibly just getting this rear end built. It is a 12 bolt truck axle not sure what size ring gear yet. Haven't got that far. Thanks. And I am new to this whole forum thing so I apologize if I did something wrong

650 to 800 ponies is a tall order to have someone build it. Big bucks!
It has a standard truck 12 bolt in it. 8.875" ring gear. Same as a 12-bolt car, but with a slightly smaller pinion gear. The truck 12 bolts are pretty stout and decent rear ends in their own right. There are a lot of these trucks at drag strips with truck 12's in them running brutal amounts of power through them and they are surviving. Regardless if you're cruisng the fairgrounds or doing some stoplight to stoplight runs.. , a truck 12 will be just fine. Put after market axles in it and a decent locker or posi-traction unit and it will be money. If you get serious about racing and the like... stat looking at Ford 9" rear ends. Gary

Thanks guys. And I am putting the ride tech coil over kit in it so to answer your question, it will have coil overs in the back. And I was thinking about a locker with some moser 5 lugs axles. Would 31 spline be string enough to handle the power or should I try to find something with around 35ish?

By the time you rebuild it and put new axles in it, you'll have a considerable amount of money into it. For what you're doing I would just go with a new 9" rear end.
