Change out shift lever

I have a 72 C-10 automatic with adjustable steering wheel. I want to change the shift lever as the old one is really funky. Would someone give me some instructions on the how to's.

Thanks,
Bill

Re: Change out shift lever

Pull the rubber bootie back, if it has one. Drive the roll pin out the top and pull lever out.

Re: Change out shift lever

Super easy. As Russ said, just drive the pin out from the bottom. GMCPauls sells new levers for about $40.

There's a spring in the column that interfaces with the back of the bottom end of the lever. When you go to install the new lever, you're just going to have to remember to engage that spring and push it back towards the dash a little to get the lever tip engaged with the shift detents, and to get the pin holes to line up.

don't lose the old pin. I bought a set of new ones at the auto parts and none of them were the right size.
