Need info on automatic column - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Ok I need some help here. I need to see what automatic column hooked up looks like on the engine compartment side next to the linkage. Same as the pic below but only for a auto not a 3 speed.

Lets compare. This is the new column installed. Only the column has been changed.

Is the bottom bearing being held against the bottom of the column? I don't know if that is going to work with the end cap that it still has.

Yep its in there. I think you are right about the cap end. The 3sp one had a 2-3 inch hollow end that bolted up to that. What other parts do you think I will need?

Well can you remove the cap? Because the joint should look like the drawings I sent to you with the spring, clamp, and flat washer. See the clamp in my pic? It serves two purposes #1 to hold the two shafts together and #2 to hold pressure against the flat washer which in turn holds pressure on the spring holding the bearing up in the column. So If the cap was removed and replaced with a flat washer I don't know if it would let it put enough pressure on the bearing. You may need to get the auto's two shafts the one with the U-joint for the steering box and the center shaft that goes through the column also the large flat washer and spring too. Your shaft should look like the one above with the blue arrow. The U-joint is the large part that you can see on the shaft.
