65 Burb body mounts

Did a quick search over the forums and didnt see any posts about this so I thought I would ask...

Took the body off the frame a few weeks ago and most of the body mounts were toast. Does anyone know a source for a pack of new ones? I found a few places that sell 67+ but they're all round, looks to me like the 65s have to be rectangle in some places just to fit where they need to go. Any ideas?

Thanks!

sorry to hi-jack, but will be looking for same. Don't see on classic industries website the mounts you are referring to? http://www.classicindustries.com/truck/parts/g2423.html

I was wondering the same thing but I think I am going to get the pack of rounds and see how it goes. I generally buy from lmc so I'm going with this kit - http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cb/full.aspx?Page=37. We'll see how it goes

Thats the one I bought. I put the body back on the frame (without mounts at the moment, had to get it off the rotisserie) so as soon as I get them in I'll attempt to install them and take some pics.

it would be the way to go if one knew if they fit(looks basically as the one 67-72 kit from classic ind.). it would be good if one could get measurements of the g=height of the upper insulators and what size that they are where they fir into the corresponding holes in the frame mounts; but you could always modify that hole to work properly

Re: 65 Burb body mounts

I used the 69-72 style. The holes in those are larger, so I enlarged the holes in the steel frame mounts. I then made a steel spacer, just like original, but the same diameter as the 67-72 mounts. I made 10 all together, but 2 of them were longer than the other 8. In retrospect I would have installed them without the extra trouble of making spacers. I don't see them moving once they are installed and tight and I could have glued them down. Or I would have gone to a place in El Cajon, Cal. that sells everything and anything rubber and I would have made my own. They are a little over 9/10 of an inch with a vulcanized piece of rectangular steel that is 1/8 of an inch thick. I played around with making urethane ones but i did not like how rigid they were. Mine's a 4x4 so I wanted a bit more flex and I was afraid that it would create stress cracks in the body. For the front ones you can use truck mounts and you are 20% there.

Re: 65 Burb body mounts

http://www.classicindustries.com/truck/parts/g2423.html are the ones.
there are specific measurements for these. they do mount top and bottom and the tabs interlock to keep them in position. you need 16 of them

The frame holes on the burbs are 3 different sizes, I used the 69 mounts but had to use rubber hose in some to make up the difference check your frame.

pics of suburban-panel body insulators

Ron, this is Lewis. Please forgive me for not getting back sooner, but I have been busy in my work for the church I serve. I checked both my 65-66 parts manual and my 67-72 parts manual. This is what I discovered: 1964-6 body mounts are p/n 3794779, w/dimentions of 1.76" w; 3.00" l; 0.92" thick, needing 8 (up & lwr same). The 67-8 p/n is 3909351 up & lwr, 69-72 uses 3909351 as the lwr, but p/n 3946246 is the upr. No dimentions are given for these cushions, and it seems that the frame changed in '69. Qty's in 67-8 are 16, with 69-72 requiring 10 of each. If you have dimentional axcess to the later cushions, these 64-66 dimentions should help you. Like you, I suspect that the 67-8 cushions will work, but there is no superseded p/n's between the body styles. I can tell you that years ago I bought cab mounts for my 65 and the p/n's had superseded to the mounts for the 67-72 cabs. I hope that this info is of some assistance in answerring this question.

the dimensions sound right. the .92" high includes the raised section around the bolt hole.
The measurement excl the raised section is between about .73-.74" high
hope that helps
ron

you can see one that is partially collapsed in the top right

I did some follow up on these insulators and the 3946246 is still a good # from gm. it is stocked in Lansing, mich. it is on the discontinued list though. list at about 25.00 each. they were last listed as the #3 upper body insulator on a 73-91 blazer/jimmy. classic industries has them for 13.00 each and look under 69-72 suburban
ron
they work on the 64-66 suburbans

Follow-up on the rectangular mounts: P/N: 3946246. verifying that these are the rectangular ones? If so, GM parts direct has them for ~$8 each

I received 16 of these today... looks like the real deal. Placed the order Thanksgiving weekend sometime. When did you place yours?

Re: 65 Burb body mounts

classic ind. also shows a 67-72 suburban mount kit and if it works is less money than buying the rectangular ones singular. I thaink that the frt cab mounts are different than the 60-66 one though

Extract from Shop Manual. Just so I'm clear, the cab mounts (#1 and 2) for Burbs and pickups are the same, round biscuit type? And the rear mounts are the rectangular style, #s 3, 4, 5, and 6?

"Panel and Suburban
The number 1 and 2 body mounts of all Panel and Suburban vehicles are as shown in Figure 4. Mounts typical of numbers 3, 4, 5, and 6 of these vehicles may be seen in Figure 5."

Re: 65 Burb body mounts

I believe only the first mount is "truck style" as the second steel frame mount sits lower on a Sub vs. truck. Makes sense since the Sub has the lower floor for seating.

Re: 65 Burb body mounts

only the pictured nbr 1 is used . in figure 5- panel and suburban body mount the one with the letter A is actually the "B" pillar insulator which is in the same position as nbr 2 mount in the above fig 4 illustration.
in the fig 5 illustration the separate view "A" is the suburban mounting while the other is panel mounting as the panel floor goes up right behind the seat and the suburban allows for a footwell as the back floor is shorter

only the frt mount that lines up with the "A" pillars is round. the other 4 insulators towards the rear are all rectangular.there are only 5 mounts in total down each side
