Gas Filler Behind Taillight Info?? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hey Guys, I work for a Natural Gas utility company and a friend at work has offered to make a custom stainless steel under the bed gas tank for me. This guy is one of the best welders we have and can fabricate just about anything. I would like to locate the filler neck behind one of the taillights. I have never seen this but I have heard people talk about it. Does anyone have pics or info on this. Info is much appreciated.

Thanks WES. That is awesome. I added that one to my favorites. Mine is a 67 so I don't have side marker lights. If I did, that would be the way to go. I didn't see something for a filler neck behind the taillight though. Do I need to go to another area on that page? Thanks for taking the time to answer my post.

Try the search function. I know I saw someone did it, but if I remember correctly they said they would NEVER do it again. Too hard They said.

Thanks for the link. I already bought the LED's with clear taillights. I think I could handle that one. One thing that will help is that the stainless tank could be made to accept the filler from the start. I'll have plenty of time to do it. I'm gonna be off work for the next five months. One month healing from neck surgery and the next four after that: neck healing but should be able to get a few hours a day in on the truck. That is suck an awesome modification. I was talking to the electronics guy we have at work and he was telling me he could rig up a motor so it could be opened remotely from inside the cab. If I decide to do this, I will be sure to post pics.

I was the one that did the flip down tail light. You will need at least 20 hours to complete this mod. If you decide to do it feel free to ask for pitcures if you need them more detailed. I think you could figure out a better style hinge.
