Key in ACC or On position - tries to crank
I put a battery in my truck this evening for the first time since tearing it apart and doing the swap. I don't have the wires hooked up to the distributor or to the alternator yet - I just wanted to see if the gauges would light up and if the headlights would work.
When I put the key in the on but not cranking postion and in the ACC position, it cranks the starter. I do have a remote selenoid and I believe it is wired correctly. Any thoughts with why this might be happening? P.S. dash lights work, but no headlights, but that might be because the floor dimmer switch is not hooked up yet (can't find it yet )

A similar thing happened to me recently after pulling my starter to change the clutch..In my case, I inadvertently only had one lead going to my starter, ( the solenoid one) and as soon as I hooked up the battery, the engine wanted to turn over..Not sure that this will help you, but a simple thing to check, eassy to knock off an old wire or ground on these trucks ..

I'd look real carefully at that remote relay for your starter.

Starting
Your truck doesn't want to wait anymore.
Same thing happened to me and it turned out that the two wires on the selenoid had to be changed. |

You are getting power to the s terminal that activates the solenoid when you are not supposed to. Something wrong with the wiring?

Both under hood wiring harnesses are new and I inspected and repaired one problem I found in the under dash harness when it was out. Prior to the engine swap when I put in the remote selenoid I had the two wires switched on the selenoid and it would not do anything when you tried to start the engine so that makes me think that is not the problem. Have to do some investigating hopefully tonight. Sure hope my truck isn't possessed

Mark, give me a call if that doesnt help. I'm 100% sure the extra wire connected to the soleniod is whats causing your troubles.

You have your "s" and "I" wires reversed on the solenoid

Will be switching them tonight - sounds like that will fix this issue - will let you all know.

Geez, I feel like an idiot, just remembered I have pics of how it was before I tore the truck apart and how it is now - yep, these two wires are reversed.

And to think I did the same thing when I put the remote selenoid on the old engine a few years ago - this time I read the instructions carefully - makes me want to re-read them and see if they have it wrong. That will teach me to read directions - I should have done it like a man, without reading instructions!

Switched those two wires on the remote selenoid and works properly now - that was too easy to fix, thanks guys!
Also got the headlights working last night and confirmed the wipers and heater both are working. More things to cross off the "to do list". Even got the Autometer clock working - now at least I will know what time it is when I'm out working at night.

Hopefully before too long! I was going to fire it up last Saturday but I went to hook up the line from the tank to the fuel pump and find a crack in the casting where you thread in the fitting for the line into the fuel pump. Bought all the engine stuff about 2 years ago and of course JEGS says only 1 year warranty and Federal Mogul says 90 day warranty. Pump hasn't even been used yet. A gal at Federal Mogul is seeing if they will take care of me, can't fire up until I get the fuel pump repaired or replaced.
