v8 motor mounts with s-10 swap?
I'm doing the s-10 swap with my 1950 truck. I have a 350 and want to use it with the swap. Can you modify the s-10 v8 mounts to work, does anyone have pictures of homemade engine mounts or know where you can buy engine mounts that might work with this swap?

Some one posted this for me check out the video.
I used jags that run mounts from eBay and they work just fine, They are adjustable. http://www.v8s10.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=8510 |

Re: v8 motor mounts with s-10 swap?
I'm doing one right now and I'm just putting it in the stock position. S10 V8 conversion mounts push the engine forward 4". If anything, you need to go back 1-2 inches maximum. On my son's '54 we used steel plates to move it back. After I had to angle the bottom of the stock radiator out, I figured I have about 5+ inches of clearance so this time I'm bolting it right up on stock motor mounts in the original position. This is also allowing me room to run a mechanical fuel pump.

Re: v8 motor mounts with s-10 swap?
oh really! well the 350 has the s-10 conversion v-8 mounts already, so Dan, you're saying bolt it up in stock location on the s-10 frame and I should be good to go! That is great news. I thought I was going to have to make special mounts or buy special mounts.

Hey Dan
I just got my cab on the frame this week and am going to need to move it back. How close does the stock location put you to the firewall? Joe |

Re: v8 motor mounts with s-10 swap?
About 2" from the firewall from what I found. We went 1 3/4" back on my son's truck and there is a finger's width between the dizzy and the firewall.
Here you can see how close the valve covers are to the firewall as well. Last edited by Dan Bowles; 11-07-2010 at 09:35 PM. |

That pic was when we were cutting up the inner fenders to make them fit so the front end is jacked way up making the engine not level.

Re: v8 motor mounts with s-10 swap?
I looked mine over closer today and thought I was good to go back when it hit me,I am running an LT1 and the A/C bracket is going to hit the frame so I am going to have to either raise the enigne which is possible with the brackets I am using or notch the frame which I didnt want to do, or both.

I'm building a 327 for mine, but I'm not near ready for mock up. Yes, let us know how it works out.

Re: v8 motor mounts with s-10 swap?
That is a 327 in my pics. The engine side has CAR mounts, not TRUCK mounts. Sits it up a little higher in the frame.

Re: v8 motor mounts with s-10 swap?
I think it looks better with the engine up higher. Are you using the stock oil pan? I hope I can use the ramhorn manifolds. I like that vintage look.

Re: v8 motor mounts with s-10 swap?
Hi,i have a '49 sitting on an s-10 and just picked up a pair of v8 motor mounts for s-10 off of ebay. The ones i purchased will let you adjust the motor back toward the firewall and also move the motor to the passenger side a little to help clear the steering linkage. Check out( Jags That Run )they offer the same mounts that i ordered for s-10's with v-8. I included a couple pics of my truck in the mock up stage. In the pics the motor is a 283 that im using to mock up with in the factory s-10 location with the 4.3 factory mounts and you can see it needs to go back toward the firewall. With the mounts in the pictures i can move the motor to where it works best for me to help clear the steering ,a-arms ,and headers. Hope this helps.

Re: v8 motor mounts with s-10 swap?
Rolllinrooster, those look like the ones designed to go with the S10 2.8 v6 mounts.... they're designed to lower the motor further down onto the chassis. I gotta make me a set of those... just so I can get the trans to clear the tunnel a bit more... I pushed my block back to within 1" of the firewall and rewelded the dish back into the firewall for dizzy clearance...
Cheers, Ted.

Re: v8 motor mounts with s-10 swap?
On an S10 chassis... if you move the motor mounts back about 1 1/2 - 2" it puts the motor about 1: from the firewall when the sheetmetal is all set up. Most of those mounts are designed to move it back (or forward) about 2 - 2 1/2" so... it'll put you in the ballpark. The issue I had (since I plated my motor mounts and plated the sides around them) I moved the bolt holes back about 2" and so the motor mounts can bolt directly on... no offset holes. But... I need to lower the block down onto the chassis as much as possible... and the 2.8 mounts are plenty strong enough, short enough and with the engine adapter plate (with the square hole in the middle)... squat enough to get the engine down another inch or two...
It's all about your custom setup... nothing ever seems to be bolt on with these things! Cheers! Ted.

Re: v8 motor mounts with s-10 swap?
I used the same mounts as rollin rooster in post 16.I had to trim the back of the bracket with a sawsall as you can see from the picture, there is day light.if I did a frame notch like the guys that run fuel pumps it would have cleared. At this point I am not going to run the A/C and will use a bypass pulley if I do decide to run the A/C I will relocate it to the top left with a bracket kit.
I thought about this after I posted I can come forward and still have room for an electric fan and not trim the bracket Last edited by RootBeer 6117; 11-20-2010 at 07:53 AM. |
