Anyone want Corvette Brakes for their C10?
I'm working on something to drive for this upcoming summer and was going to do a 13" C5 Front brake setup on a Mcgaughys drop spindle for my truck which has a dropmember so I'm running the 73-87 Spindles. I also have a new set of whitewalls that came with the truck when I bought it so I have decided I would run 15" wheels with stock 73-87 disc brakes so I can do the whitewall thing instead of the big brakes and big wheels. I was hoping I can get someone local that would be interested in this setup so I can install it and get some feedback. I would do the install free of charge just pay for the parts, or you can bring your own. The spindles and hubs I will need to supply since the Spindles had to be machined for the brackets that secure the vette brakes. I guess I would be easier for me to supply the aftermarket hubs as well, they are drilled for 5x4.5 and 5x4.75 but I can re-drill both the vette rotor and the hub to 5x5 for NO charge if you already have the wheels in that bolt pattern. I've done alot of these conversions on passenger cars with excellent results but this is the first truck I've done. If there is a lot of interest I might start offering these at a very reasonable price for a cost effective big brake swap alternative. If anyone has any ideas, suggestions, comments good or bad, I'd love to hear em'

Re: Anyone want Corvette Brakes for their C10?
BTW, this same setup will work with the C6 Z06 14" Rotors and 6 Piston Calipers however there aren't many wheels out there that have enough caliper clearance built in so figure on running a spacer with the C6 stuff. I probably should have mentioned that both C5 and C6 brakes will need an 18" or bigger wheel to work, there are some 17" that will clear but not all. If your running your valve stems on the backside of your rim the hidden flat valve stems will need to be used, the rubber ones usually create interference between itself and the caliper. Pics of the C6 and the truck I decided to do the whitewalls on.

Nothing special, 6cyl 3 speed big window fleetside, OG paint is probably the coolest thing I like about it. Hoping to button it up next week and start driving it daily.

Re: Anyone want Corvette Brakes for their C10?
These look good. Did you use the Mcgaughy's modular spindle or a "standard" drip spindle?
What kind of hub did you use?

Re: Anyone want Corvette Brakes for their C10?
Standard drop spindle with the caliper bracket milled completely off. The hubs are designed for aftermarket brackets on mustang II hubs but with an easy bearing change they fit the drop spindles perfect.

In case you want to see what the C5 and C6 looks like behind an 18" and 20" wheel.
58 Chevy is 18" wheel with C6 Z06 Silver 62 is 20" wheel with C5 Pic with no fenders is 18" with C5 Last edited by way2lo2; 03-08-2010 at 05:53 PM. Reason: typo |

Re: Anyone want Corvette Brakes for their C10?
You should look into making a hybrid bracket so that you can run the 14" Z06 rotors with the regular 2 piston caliper. People like options. Also if you built a setup to use the corvette rear brakes on a truck 12 bolt rear, you would probably make a killing. Just my $.02
