XJ Intermediate Shaft

Ive been all over the boards, combed through google pages and yet to have found a clear cut answer.
Can you install an XJ Jeep Intermediate Shaft on a 67-72 C10? It seems everything I have found is all for the squarebody 73-87 guys.
Can this be done? Same setup as before? 84-96 XJ Jeep, notch on the shaft to clear the bolt? Is the spring still necessary on the shaft?

Re: XJ Intermediate Shaft

I researched it a bit myself, and it seems to work only on 79+ vehicles with the double D shaped steering shaft in the column.

This link shows it well, scroll through it:

http://www.chevyk5blazer.com/forums/...aft-conversion

Our trucks use a splined shaft in the column, so no go. I've been hoping to find a 79-83 square body column for cheap, and try swapping the shaft into my 69 column in order to get the double D shaft. So far no luck on the donor column, so don't know if it'll work.

Hope this helps.

I know the post you're referring to. It's what I call a teaser thread - it tells you something's possible, but not HOW. There are a couple of those on here on various subjects.

Re: XJ Intermediate Shaft

I just put one on a 66 suburban but I had to put a new joint on the top end to mate up to the steering column. wasn't really cheap at that point but it worked.

Re: XJ Intermediate Shaft

Well, i guess i will just have to stick with rebuilding the rag joint. If it was as easy as the 73-87 guys it would be a no brainer

Re: XJ Intermediate Shaft

Another option is the astro van.. iirc.. the one on my SS is 2 pieces so the frame to body movement doesn't bind the box or column and kill bearings/etc.. like the solid shaft will.
on the jeep it doesn't matter as it's unit body...
THe astro has a bolt in subframe on rubber bushings.
