Where to start?

I am new to this board and to trucks. My newest acquisition is a 1983 GMC Sierrra 3500 Dump truck. It needs a passenger door, driver's fender and a complete interior overhall. I have restored autos: 1960 Rambler, 1967 Rambler, 1940 Nash, 1957 Studebaker, 1963 Plymouth and a 1981 Imperial. The last three cars I currently own.

This truck has a two year old crate GMC 350 engine attached to the original 4 speed tranny. First gear is a low for hauling/towing. I do not know if the dump mechanism is operable at this point.

The engine, tranny, and brakes work fine. Wipers, lights and heater also work perfectly. Now, the simple question: "Where do I start? and What pitfalls are there in truck restoration?" Do I follow my methods used in the auto restoration process?

Your guidance will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Where to start?

Just like anything else, start by making alist. Looks at what you "want" to fix/replace vs what "needs" to be fixed/replaced.

While most of us here are more in tune with the C-10 or C-20, your still in luck. GM made these trucks very similiar no matter how big they are.

Make a "to do " list, and get back with us. Oh by the way, we like pictures....

Re: Where to start?

Yup, make a list of what it needs and start from there. Had an 88 R30 dump, very similar. All body parts from C10s and C20s are the same. good Luck and post some pictures when you can.
