As some of you may know I recently bought a 1969 Chevrolet CST-10 pick up truck. I live in a pretty nice town of New Lenox, IL, but there is something wierd happening, I usually leave the 69' Chevy outside and whenever I do this guy in this red caviler drives up stops looks around and takes a picture (of my truck) then drives away. I don't know what to think could he be just some guy who likes trucks and needs to have a collection of photographs for his amusement, or could he be planing to steal it or something?. HELP!!!!

So has he only taken one picture or has he taken multiple? Next time you see him approaching, go outside. If he's a truck enthusiast, he'll stop and talk, if he's a theif it'll be pedal to the metal.

I'm with Whitesswj and deuce on this one. Take a few pics of his car and remove something so he can't steal it. I wouldn't go to the cops just yet, just keep a close eye on him and ask around about the guy. Nothing I hate worse than a car theif.

And when you park the truck(if you don't have a garage) remove a wire(dist/coil) just to be safe.

This can be bypassed by using one of the sparkplug wires as the coil wire and it will still drive away missing one cylinder. You are better off with a hidden toggle ign. kill switch. Locking hood and or the club for the steering wheel.
Maybe the guy is trying to sell your truck on eBay?

Get his plate # and take his PIC like suggested.

He might just own one that he is trying to restore. I'm trying to restore one and when I see them at car shows I would take pics of the trucks details so that I have an idea as to where things will go or should be mounted. I would even do it at a private residence if I see one. I would ask the owner for permission though of course, even if it is sitting on a public road. You might be a getting a little too over-worried but it's always better to be safe than sorry.

You know the history of your truck...perhaps he see parts stolen from maybe one of his...or could be a truckaholic.

Maybe you'll see your truck for sale on ebay....maybe thats not funny.

Rod i know what a truckaholic is (i'm one) and this guy is not one, and everything is original i checked before i bought it from the previous owner (no he does not drive a red caviler). but thank you very much for the information/help.

Don't forget the liscence #,, driver description, passengers if any, too. & also if you know your neighbors, tell them to keep an eye peeled. If you don't know your neighbors,, go meet em.

As a Lawenforcement Officer in Texas, I would get all the information on the subject, Example Type of car, color, license plate #, What the subject looks like. I would then file a report with your the lawenforcement in your community for suspicous Activity. With his license plate they can tell them alot about the subject if he is up to no good.

theres lots of things to disconect so the truck wont run,i would put a hidden cut off switch on your ignition and make sure the wire and switch are not visible.first thing he would look for is a switch if it doesnt start,so put it somewhere where he wont look in a hurry.

if your taking parts out so it wont run,rotate what parts you take out he could easily come back the next night with a part thats needed.

I think that you are right to be alarmed. I would contact the police to have something on record (just in case). I also like the idea about taking this guy's picture and getting the licence plate number.

I've heard of people cutting the end off of an extension chord and attaching one wire to the car and one wire to ground. I don't know if it really works or not but if it does 110 should at least get their attention.

I whonder if one of those tazer (sp) stun guns could be modified and hooked up to the key switch?

Just a thought, do you live in a neighborhood with a lot of restrictions? He could be taking pictures to file a complaint. My uncle used to live in Germantown, TN in a REALLY high brow subdivision. He was restricted from even having a truck/camper/boat/etc. parked outside. In my subdivision, I can have my vehicles parked outside, just have to work on them inside. Either way, I would meet him outside and extend my warmest Christmas wishes to him.

if i were you id go find myself the meanest pit bull possible and chain it to the truck or by it and then in my spare time sit on the porch with a shotgun and wait for him. had somebody doin that to me and then stop and about a month later they tried to break into my house about 3 times in one week they stopped trying after i ran up to the front door and got face to face with one of the guys. thank god the dog barked and woke me up

Whatever you do to make your truck less vulnerable to theft, chain the hood down. You can encase the chain in a bicycle tube to protect the finish. Lock the chain to the frame where it's accessable on your feet, but not easy to bolt cut the lock or chain. You can also have thick wire rope with loop ends made to fit, vice a chain. Encase it in vinyl hose prior to putting end loops on.

With the truck self-disabled each night and the hood chained down, towing is prolly the only easy way to steal it.
