Shortbed VS. Longbed (which one to buy w/pics)

hey fellas, i've been looking for another chevy truck and i know of these 2 in my area. first is a longbed with a freshly rebuilt 455 olds motor and 4L60E tranny. interior is very nice and truck is really strong. second is a shortbed with a 350 and a 2" hoodscoop. dont know much about it other than that. it is my friends truck and he says its good to go, very reliable. i'll be going to take a look at Sunday. which do you guys like more? i do prefer shortbeds over longbeds but a truck is a truck and both body styles are great.

Longbed is asking $3050
Shortbed is asking $2500

Depends on the use you are looking for. The short bed / long debate has been going on for a few decades. You just opened up a can of worms. If I were to choose, I would go with the long bed.

no special use for either one. just gonna be driven almost daily. i dont really haul anything but there are times when i do need to put something in the bed but not too often.

shortbed and ditch the ugly box rails, I am biased on this though being my current project, also it leaves you with the finishing touches for paint etc, the long bed would be a shame to start messing with the current finish

455 Olds and 4L60E? Strange combo that doesn't naturally bolt together and on top of that the trans needs a computer. Can we get some underhood pics? Not saying it can't be done, just saying most people wouldn't go through the trouble..or cost for that engine and trans combo.

well he actually said LT1 transmission which is 4L60E. i have a 96 impala ss which has the same thing. maybe he made a mistake and meant 700r4. i didnt want to take to many pictures of his truck so i just took the one of the outside. anyway, the longbed is very nice. but i am heavily leaning towards the shortbed. i will most likely get it within the next week or so. the 2" hood scoop is a plus but those wheels have to go, i'd much rather have 15x10 chrome rallies.

Shortbed! Although, the longbed looks good you can take the extra cash left over and paint the shortbed.

Real trucks can haul twelve 4x8 sheet of plywood in the bed with the tailgate shut. Be weary of that olds 455 though, unless it was really built.
For a putt putt truck daily drive, the swb would probably be a better choice for you. 350's are so much easier and cheaper to work on in the long run, and lots more options for them.

i think you answered your own question when you said you prefer shortbeds. take the extra grand and put it into the shortbed to make it like you want it.

Shortie. It's what you want now and it'll bring more money at resale time.

Re: Shortbed VS. Longbed (which one to buy w/pics)

longbeds are the best for towing and good ride qaulity shortbeds look nice and are easier to park. for a great around town truck i prefer the ride of a longbed.

Re: Shortbed VS. Longbed (which one to buy w/pics)

You need to ask yourself how are you on gas money? That 455 while strong and badass will pass everything but a gas pump. If you get 9 or 10 MPG with the 455 it you'll be lucky.

Re: Shortbed VS. Longbed (which one to buy w/pics)

Shortbed! But that long bed sure does look clean. If I were some type of construction contractor or something then definitely a longbed. For what I do, I use my truck as a truck at times, such as hauling mulch, dirt, dirt bikes, trailers, but never really needed the lwb.
