Calgary, Alberta, Canada..Anyone Live There?

Looks like i have been picked to drive the chalet up to the great white north to recieve some andvanced training for my job in the oil patch. Looks like i'll be there a month or so for the training. Just thought i'd see if there are any members up that way so i don't feel like a stranger....lol.

Anyways i should be heading up by the end of this month or early august. Going to drive from here in grand junction up to casper wyoming and i'll figure the rest of the route by map quest. If anybody's along the way i woulnd't mind stopping and BS'ing a bit if you want...chalets aren't hard to miss so i should be easy to spot....just look for that funky burnt orange color...

There are at least 4 members in Calgary that I can think of! Check out the Canada forum -- We are planning a meet in August I hail from about 3 hours North of Calgary just East of Edmonton

Re: Calgary, Alberta, Canada..Anyone Live There?

Ok..the road trip is on. I'll be leaving colorado thursday night to be in casper wyoming on friday. I'll be spending the day at my employers shop and visting since i haven't been to HQ in over a year. Depending on how dinner goes and how poluted i become i'll be driving out late friday or early sat am heading for calgary. I'm going to 9160-52ND Dtreet SE. I have 4 days worth of classes so i can get out to the drillin fields to train on our mud pulse and gamma tools. I'll be around a month or two from what i have been told. And i imagine in between jobs i'll be back in calgary waiting for the next rig to fire up. I spoke with a CK5 member from canmore last night and he says chalets in canada are rather rare....so if you think you see one...it'l probably be me.

My cell number is 970-250-3800. Give me a shout...

Re: Calgary, Alberta, Canada..Anyone Live There?

Guess i'll go with downhole logging...i am an em mwd operator. I run our em tool here in the states but i'll be learning the mud pulse tool and the gama tool as we are picking up that type of work in Raton New Mexico and somewhere in Utah. We also have work in montana and the dakotas...i live in colorado so i am hoping to get the NM and UT stuff.

Our patch here in colorado is crazy busy also...

Not sure as our em tool was created by the company so i would assume its our baby. Been running just the em tool for a year in the states and they now want some in the states to be able to run the em tool with gamma...

I'll find out monday am...

Re: Calgary, Alberta, Canada..Anyone Live There?

Okay...now i have an issue. My tilt column bolts have loosened up after the 1200 mile or so trip up and i didn't bring my lock plate depressor and or my pivot pin remover. Does anybody here in calgary have such critters in their toolbox? Gonna be in the shop tomorrow except the usual wiz quiz...then the rest of the week will be H2s class...and a 2 day first aid class at the marlboro mall? I figure everyone is blasting out friday for the show in red deer so things are looking bad for me....pm me or call me at the Travelodge at 403-253-7070. Rm 632. Driven it is like hearding a pack of cats...

Re: Calgary, Alberta, Canada..Anyone Live There?

Doug, find yourself a Canadian Tire, and rent a steering wheel puller / compressor tool. The rest of the column comes apart real easy. The pins can be removed by threading a machine screw through a peice of angle iron into the pins, then putting a skinny peice of pipe between the column and angle iron, then using the lever effect to pull it out

Most of the time they come out pretty easily, just make sure you don't snap the bolt off in the pin!

I'd come do it for you with my tools, but Calgary is a wee bit of a drive, lol

Re: Calgary, Alberta, Canada..Anyone Live There?

Have used that method with the pins but if it has been sloppy for a long time the pins are a pain in the a to get out. Gonna hit some parts houses today and just buy the tools i need...its just money and i'll right off the expense. I want to fix it so i can meet some of you guys in red deer so i need to fix her and get her cleaned up....not sure....but i don't think a chalet has ever been near a truck show...lol.

Not entirely sure if you can anymore... maybe it is just the cruise, but there were registrations months ago.

I personally won't be making it south this weekend though, I'm heading in the other direction to go camping, lol

Re: Calgary, Alberta, Canada..Anyone Live There?

Well that sux. Was hoping to meet you while i was here.
I'm just gonna head up saturday am and hang out.
I made a banzai run to the driveline place at lunch today and
managed to get my self lost...no surprise there. On the way back to
getting on the right track i spotted a slammed 87 that i recognized
from the board so i stopped by and meet dean after my H2S class and
took some pics. Small world ain't it.

Yep, it definitely is a small world!

How long are you in the area? I am in Calgary fairly reasonably often

Re: Calgary, Alberta, Canada..Anyone Live There?

I'll be here for a month too two months...at least thats what they tell me. I have my last day of first aid class tomorrow at the marlborough mall and then next week its hands on in the shop until they boot my buns out into the field. After that i'll be in and out of town depending on how long each well lasts until they give me the thumbs up and i can go home.

Still thinkin about heading up to red deer but no body replied to my post in the other section so i don't want to go and hang out if now one wants to meet a yank....

Seems that you have a good time in Canada and do a lot of driving!
Even if i don´t understand what you talk about your work and stuff!
I assume your Blazer Chalet is a very reliable ride, right?!
So drive safely and get home well! How is the new house doing?

Re: Calgary, Alberta, Canada..Anyone Live There?

Hey volker...the chalet is very reliable. We just had a small maint issue get larger on the way up...the tilt wheel collar bolts loosened up and i had to fix it here in the parking lot after i scrounged up the proper tools.

According to the wife they broke ground on the house on monday...so maybe there will be some kind of outline of a house and a garage when i get back to the states.

Got your parts and left your address with the wife so when she had time she could ship them out. I'll worry about the how much when ever i get home and have time.

Good to hear that. There´s no need to rush with the parts because there maybe some more parts i need and it would be more costeffective to ship everything together! And with all that payment will be a bigger issue!Lets do that when yore back home,ok?!

The parts haven't left yet. My wife said Fed Ex wanted $200 to ship them so she told them they were nuts. I'll handle things when i get home. I'm not worried about money for the parts. We'll take care of things later bud. At least i was able to make a pile of parts you wanted...lol.

200 bucks for shipping is really much because there are customs and taxes that come additionally!
But good to here about the parts!
I have 2 and half weeks off work now and will try to get the engine running!

Good ole USPS....it was 2 boxes due to the shift linkage...and it was 50 bux to ship them both via the slowest most cost effective option. I had told her to just put the boxes in a corner until i got home but i guess she decided to ship them out anyways....lol.

There are about a half dozen of us on the 67-72 page from Calgary if that helps. Hope you enjoy your visit, and I appologize in advance for the traffic the city is really starting to swell cause of the oilpatch.
Hey moneyeater where in Germany are you from? One of my inlaws used to play hockey in Bramerhaven, now he plays in Selb. Went to Bramerhaven thought had a great time.

Re: Calgary, Alberta, Canada..Anyone Live There?

Thats ok....thought i was in phoenix again for awhile. Going on my third week now and i'm trying to adjust to no mountain dew with caffien...no state side smokes...although the wife just sent me two cartons today....and should be here by friday. Stayin at the travelodge on macleod across from the ranchman bar.....the chalet is always tucked away from in the back to keep her unmolested and under my watchful eye from the hotel room....

Should be out in the field training but i have developed a macular edema in my left eye and everything is fuzzy...fun to drive. I go to the doc on friday and hopefully it will be some sort of quick fix. I work at cathedral energy off of 52nd st. se across from the nabors yard and the chalet isn't hard to miss.

I tend to hold up traffic a bit with curious onlookers as the chalet is fairly rare and they usually hang to the side in traffic writing down the ck5.com web addy....lol.

I meet one of the members by accident because i recognized the truck from a photo on the board....blue slammed 87 short box....his name was dean.
