After several years of chasing down information about the 8-track this is what I have found. Both pics are correct. The first was put in trucks only. The second (with the bowtie on door) was used in cars and trucks. Hopes this helps. Mark

any one here ever do a rebuild on a factory 8 -track?
the reason i am asking is that i have been doing a bunch of looking around at old factory 8 tracks. what i am seeing is that the dimensions of a lot of the old gm units are identicle, and if you look close the knobs are laid out the same as our trucks. if you do a search on ebay for 8 track players you will see what i mean. every thing from and old buick electra to an oldsmobile delta 88, to a trans am seems to have the same layout and a lot of them have the same knobs. what i am hoping is to find a truck unit like in the first picture, above and then buy enough of the simalar units to fix up the truck player. anyone done anything like this?

I have noticed also that the layout of the cartridge door and the knobs, and the program button are similar to the Oldsmobile. I am particularly fond of Oldsmobiles, and have also concluded that they used the same knobs. Let's keep this discussion going until we can find a more affordable solution. I have heard really awful stories on how high these players can go($500-$800). Whereas I have never paid more than $150 for a working Oldsmobile player. I know if you want to play, you've got to pay, but come on...$800 for a warbly 8 track????
