Sunpro Tach
Anybody ever run 1. I'm looking to add a tach and want a decent 1 I can mount on my steering column. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Sunpro Tach
It is a decent tach for the money. They have gained in popularity a bunch over the last 10-15 years, But back in the day I think they were called just Sun. Ihave run several of those with great success

Re: Sunpro Tach
I found one on Craigslist and had it reworked with new electronics, cost me 200.00 for the rework and 85.00 for the used tach, They make a reproduction one that goes to 10,000 rpm that is probably the smart move. This tach was a available option on my 66 gmc it comes in a chrome case which I did not use. Kieth
stock gmc dash: http://kieth.smugmug.com/Trucks/66-G...67555848_rHzxh After dash update (same dash panel just updated it): http://kieth.smugmug.com/Trucks/66-G..._X8WmmMg-XL-LB The older tach only went to 5000 rpm and it has manual pointers for low side shift point and top rpm shift point..... On the far left in the same picture you can see a sun Batometer found that NOS on craigslist . Kieth |

Re: Sunpro Tach
I've looked at these before, has anybody had any problems with them? So all in all sun pro is good for a daily driver?

Re: Sunpro Tach
Sunpro tachometers are good but I wouldn't say they are as good as Autometer tachometers. You pay for what you get basically. Autometer's are a bit more expensive and probably a bit more responsive/accurate, but ive run a 3 1/2" sunpro tach in my cruiser for several years now with no issues, it works fine and I bought it for just over $100, I have it attached to my column.

Re: Sunpro Tach
Not as fast as Autometer,
I had a sun tach and an external Autometer shift light. When reving the shift light would come on, the sun tach would be reading about 400rpm behind it. But for a cruiser, its not a big deal. For an all out bracket car, Autometer is the way to go.

Re: Sunpro Tach
I just got one, haven't installed it yet.
I also have a summit brand one, and it reads ~500 rpms high (in the on position, its at 500 rpm, idles at 1300 rpms, etc). So I ordered the sun pro |

Re: Sunpro Tach
I was wondering is a cheap autometer better then a decent sunpro, I like the looks of sun pro quite a bit. And I can probably get it locally

Re: Sunpro Tach
Here is my Sun Pro, I have tilt steering so it was kind of difficult to find a good place on the column. I was checking out YouTube and found a video of someone who had installed it where a 71 mirror would go. I liked it, so, there you go!

Re: Sunpro Tach
I have the same exact tach pictured above installed on the column in my '72. Good tach for the money. No probs.

Re: Sunpro Tach
I bought my first Sun SuperTach II in 1977. Worked like a champ till I sold the truck several years later. I have the SunPro and other than the name can't tell the difference. I'm very pleased with it.
