Vortec Head Question: Temp sensor

I just installed a set of Vortec heads. On the driver's side where the temp sensor should go is a pipe plug. Problem is, it's recessed and SQUARE. Been to every parts store in town. Can't find a tool to get the dang thing out. I've got plenty of hex wrenches, but no square ones.

Anybody know where to get a tool to get this thing out ? Measures out to about 8mm. Is it something I have to get from from the General or is there another way.

Also, it looks smaller than the temp sensor from my old heads. What are you using for a sensor ?

Stick your rachet extension in there as if you were plugging it into a socket

Tried a ratchet extension. 3/8 is too big, 1/4 is too small.

The Vortec heads look like they have a smaller diameter opening for the temp sensor than the stock replacement for our year.

What type/year temp sensor are you guys using? Any problem with our gauges?

The pipe plug size is 5/16". A tap shank that I have fits perfectly, but I can't get a good enough grip on it to get the plug out. Now I just have to find a suitable socket tool to get the sucker out.
