4D'S "63" GMC Build

Well here I go, I finally got the shop cleaned up enough to get the beast inside, with the help of shortycox of this forum and his thread on the shifter problems. And now that horse season is over I have a little time to work on her. This may be one of the longest builds ever. it's the first time Ive tackled one by myself. I will post pics as I go and if it starts to be too many just let this old man know and I'll cut back. My oldest told me to take a lot of pictures.

Heres the walk around.

Nice rig! It looks like a really straight truck to start with....Which V-6 does it have and are you planning on keeping it in there??

Re: 4D'S "63" GMC Build

The body is real straight, I guess I lucked out there. It has the 305E V6 in it and I am going to try to keep as much of the original parts on her as I can.

Does anyone know if the "63" came with that radiator catch can in the 3rd picture? I have not seen it in any other photos on here.

Thanks, David

Oh ya, welcome to the V6 club! I've got a 305E as well. It's such a great motor. Very strong

Re: 4D'S "63" GMC Build

What type of exhaust system are you running?
I've been told duals sound real good on a 305.

Oh and thanks for the welcome...

The PO put on duals with some glass pack... the system is only about 1.5 in diameter. Small but its sounds really good for a 43 yr sixer

Re: 4D'S "63" GMC Build

Thanks, I was thinking of going that route, just that the PO just installed a stock system from the manifolds all the way back. hate to scrap it but oh well, the girls like that thumping sound of the duals.

Re: 4D'S "63" GMC Build

Started last night looking for cancer in the normal spots and found some. will start repairing it this weekend once the engine compartment is back together. Here are the worst spots so far.

Re: 4D'S "63" GMC Build

Thanks,
I had really no idea how freaking massive the 305 V6 was.
really easy to get around. Thought I would go different on the valve covers. what do you guys think about the white? starting to get things back together.

I dig the white valve covers man. Different is good...maybe a white air cleaner too? Might be hard to keep clean though. I like the tires and wheels on there. Are those nylons?

Re: 4D'S "63" GMC Build

You know I really have no idea, never looked to see. Just saw that they had good tread and were holding air. will check tonight. I would like to have something wider in the back.
