71-72 spindle question
I bought my 69 SWB from a guy who said he put the 5 lug suspension (front and rear) from a 71'. My question is how do I tell before I install my early classic spindles and ruin an exchange possibility ? I will call the guy Mon. and make sure he knows what he was talking about, but how can I tell for sure. Come on ! You guys always have the answers. Thanks

Okay, since you have 5 lug disc brakes in the front, you should either have a 71-72 spindles or 73-87 spindles.
The studs on the upper ball joints for 73 and newer spindles are larger than 71-72 ball joints were. If you put the ECE spindle onto the truck and the upper ball joint spud fits down into the spindle, you should be good to go. The 73 and newer upper ball joint would be too big to fit fully down into the spindle. You'll need to make sure it seats deep enough into the spindle to get the nut tightened and the cotter key installed. All this could be done without harming the spindle in any way. If it didn't fit, just lift the spindle back off and box it up for return.
