Post Pics and Stories of your first 60-66 Truck
Got the idea yesterday to start this thread... My first was a 61 GMC SWB Fleetside. I picked my truck up in 1986 here in central Arkansas while stationed at Little Rock Air Force Base. This truck was my daily driver and first long trip was in January 87 up to Rantoul, Illinois. The first weekend there, I drove another 80 miles north to my hometown of Braidwood. While there I had to replace the front ball bearings in the snow. Drove the truck until late 87 and due to reasons I can't recall I sold it. Dumb move... Hindsight being 20/20 I wish I still had this truck. Since I've always liked the look of the stepside bed, I now own a 65 SWB Stepper that is my current project. Last I knew the old GMC ended up in Alexander, Arkansas...
OK Guys and Gals, it's your turn...

Re: Post Pics and Stories of your first 60-66 Truck
I do not have pics anymore, but my very first vehicle was a 1966 Chevy C-10 2WD LB. My Dad bought it for me when I was 13 for $ 75. (this was in 1982) Supposedly the engine was locked up, but Dad figured out the starter was wired wrong. Fixed that and drove it for 2 years. That began my mechanical career, been fixing cars ever since.
Sadly I traded that truck for a 1970 Charger, in 1984. But I've always stayed loyal to my first truck, have owned about 10-12 1960-1966's since then (over 100 vehicles owned since 1982). Trying to track down that first truck, but don't have much info about it anymore. |

Re: Post Pics and Stories of your first 60-66 Truck
I saw it advertized in the local paper and told a buddy about it. He stood up the owner at the license bureau. I met the owner a few days later and bought it myself. Changed the rebuilt head in a car port during a snow storm. LOVED THAT TRUCK!
New girlfriend drove it to work every night at a bar where she was working during the winter, never had to go and rescue her. Had the truck for 6years then gave it to a guy in NY state. His son drove it to University for three years then put a plow on the front for their scrap yard. Seized the engine because they didn`t check the oil. Parted it out. The End! What it looked like before I gave it away. |

This is from a lady I work with. It's her dad's old truck.

Clyde is my first, bought in ‘89 when I got out of the Army. Just can’t let him go...obviously, he does not look like he did back then. 250/3OtT, Heater was only accessory.

Mine was nicknamed "but did you die" because there were so many things from the shocks being the bump stops, to the throttle held together with halfass bolts and cotter pins, to the broken steering rag joint and upper column bearing, to the hurst shifter that would get stuck between gears if you didnt get it just right.

Bought this: 1965 6 cyl, std, small window.
Used the doors, fenders, hood, and bedsides and ended up with this. 400 SBC, auto, BBW, AC cab with tach, relocated suburban tank and filler. This was built in 1984-86 before you could buy all of the stuff. Last edited by cj847; 04-18-2019 at 11:16 AM. Reason: take out some pics |

Re: Post Pics and Stories of your first 60-66 Truck
Was my great grandfathers shop truck, he sold it to my dad before he passed away for $1. We did a father/son restoration on it when I was younger. My parents moved to California for his job but he had to leave the truck behind with me. A year later they gave it to me as a Christmas gift.
1964 GMC Fleetside swb, was originally the light blue/white color combo. |

Re: Post Pics and Stories of your first 60-66 Truck
Long story short this truck was a one owner truck baught new in Fort worth, TX from Forrest Chevrolet and stayed a fort worth truck its whole life. When I purchased it from the original owner 5 years ago, he gave me all of the dealer paperwork, books, 63 tags, and a copy of the original buyers title. Running and driving 305e v6 with 3 on the tree. Clean body and a nice little truck.
