wheel 4 245/60 tire

Getting new front tires for my 68 fleet. Anyone using this tire with an 8 in. wide wheel or would a 7 in. wheel be a better choice? Thanks to all for your input.
These are 15 in. wheels if it makes any diff.

Re: wheel 4 245/60 tire

245/60R15 tires have a diameter of 26.6", a section width of 9.6", and a wheel diameter of 15". The circumference is 83.4" and they have 759 revolutions per mile. Generally they are approved to be mounted on 7-8.5" wide wheels.

That's a pretty short tire in a big wheel well . What size are on the back ?

That's what I'm running on my Burban. 15x8's with a 4 inch backspacing.

Re: wheel 4 245/60 tire

A 255/60-15 is aout 1/2" taller and 1/2" wider.

I always used to run 275/60 on the rear and 255/60 on the front of a 2wd back in the day. Then on something closer to the ground we went 295/50 rear and 265/50 front.

8” tread (245/60) on an 8” wheel makes the sidewall vertical. Just right imho…

Re: wheel 4 245/60 tire

Grumpy, the rear tires are 275/60s on 8in wheels, as well are the fronts. I want to go narrower on the front to a 245/60 ??? and saw somewhere that a 7in. wheel for the narrower tire was recommended. Thought would look better also.
Since I am getting my truck back on the road this summer, after a 4 year build, will be nice to have that extra set of 275s to burn up.

One more thing, front drop is 2.5 in spindle with 6 cyl. springs and rear is 4in drop spring.

Re: wheel 4 245/60 tire

I ram 245/60 on 8" wide up front on my 64 (4.5" drop) and 275/60 on same 8" wide wheels on rear (6" drop). It's a good combo for looks and for capacity.
