1972 chevy

ok guys I bought a 1972 chevy swb 4x4 that someone stuck a 1973 to 87 frame under it. I found a original 1972 swb 4x4 frame and powder coated it and the axles are done and is all setting on a 4 inch spring lift front and back. well my question is my cab I have is a low hump and it set on the other frame just fine because someone modified it. it has a 350 automatic with a np205. my first question is will this cab set on the new frame or do I need a high hump. and if I do need a high hump are all cabs 1967-72 the same and will bolt on to the frame. I guess what i'm trying to say is all the cabs the same other than low and high hump

Re: 1972 chevy

Yes they are. I have a 4x4 with a low hump cut out of a 2wd cab. I have a 3" body lift and always wondered if this would work so I traded a fellow my hi hump for his low and just drilled holes from a template in the low hump and what do you know, fits like a glove. And now my shift boots will fit and seal my shifters up nice. Also moved the engine forward a couple inches. GREAT MOD!

Re: 1972 chevy

Welcome to the board, the way I understand it is the high humps are the four by fours and the low humps are two wheel drive. The experts will chime in before you know it. Man I do miss the West Coast. Things don't rust and summer is all year long.

Re: 1972 chevy

IIRC you need the high hump to clear the t-case. But the good news is that a low hump can easily be converted to a high. Its done the same way the factory did, cut away the low hump leaving a flange and bolt down the high hump to added weld nuts. Just buy a cover maybe from the classifieds here and everything will fall into place. At this point my big concern would be if the the cab mounts were modified and no longer fit a 67-72 frame.

Here is a parts manual clip with the proceedure for hump modification.
