Payson car show bust
I had been waiting for this car show for almost 8 months. It is usually too hot for car shows in Phoenix in late April, so I thought Payson being 15 degrees cooler would be great this weekend. Well, long story short, mother nature decided to send rain AND SNOW for the car show. I showed up at 8:30 and toughed it out with a couple other hundred people, but left at 10:30 when it began to snow. By 12:30 it was all GONE! Ya, I head back to the car show because the sun was out to find they had to cancel it.
Oh well, I only traveled 70 miles to get there, but some people came from other states to be there. I really feel bad for them and all of the vendors. There were some fun activities the day before that I got to participate in, so I still feel it was a great weekend. I was able to get one pic of this sweet turquoise '52. When we got back to Phoenix, we went to the Goldfield ghost town to enjoy the 85 degree weather. |

Re: Payson car show bust
Too bad but I know what you mean. I took the 55 to the car show in Oracle on the same day. I grew up in that area so I go every year if I can. They had the parade and show in an abbreviated fashion, with around 130 cars and got the judging and awards done just before the rain started. It was cold and windy but due to the lower elevation, no snow, just rain. Month of early 90 degree days and the day you want to be sweet turns sour. Guess an AZ boy can never curse the rain, but I came close.

Re: Payson car show bust
My truck passed thru Payson many times in the mid 70's, we camped and explored the Rim country during the summer to get out of the Tempe heat. Then it was a very small town, I suspect in the past 40 years it, like a lot of the hill towns north of Phoenix have grown with retirement homes. We used to stop at a place called Pedro Wongs (I think) that served Mexican and Oriental food. Always suspected it was the same food, and just came with rice/noodles or tortilla depending how what your ordered!

First one i have missed in 20 years of living here Funny you mention Pedro Wongs, My wife grew up here in this little town and always tells my kids the story of the Oriental Lady asking if you wanted Hotzaus with your Taco! LOL it is a Big retirement community now and has really changed over the years i have been here! But it is a nice place to be pretty much year round, i don't think i could handle the 100^Plus days of Phoenix anymore! Allen |

Was Goldfield formerly called Rawhide with a Chuck Wagon dinner place?

That sucks. I've been to that car show before and it's always a good time. I've also been to Goldfield, good times too. Sounds like your weekend wasn't a total bust at least.

You are partially right Allen. Goldfield is out at the base of the Superstition Mountains in Apache Junction. Rawhide 'used' to be in north Scottsdale, but was moved years ago out near Maricopa.
