i think she looks sweet! don't give up the ship yet. maybe you were in a truck unfriendly crowd? maybe the cars you were up against were just too tough..... who knows? just hang in there and be ready for the next one!

last time i checked you can't drive a trophy!! to me the fun of the hobby is drivin what you've got as long as you're happy with how it looks and drives doesit really matter what others think?? look at a recent post "POISON IVY" supposedly it had a lot of trophys but definately wouldn't have one from the guys/gals from here

GOODJOB I LIKE YOUR TRUCK!

My trophies just collect dust, if you want to win alot of trophies you have to build a vehicle that everybody likes, like a dark purple 1930's car. Your truck only appeals to a small group of people. If you enter it in a Chevy truck show, you'd be sure to go home with a trophy or plaque.

First off let me say don't be sad your truck is really nice. Around here to win any awards you have to have a new truck or car add wheels, Sound System, Lower It, and the one thing that is a giveme is add Some Crapy Airbrushing and the awards will just come pouring your way. But if you put a lot of time and hard work into a old vehicle and make it look better than any new vehicle you get nothing.

Drive it and enjoy.I attend a lot of shows and to be honest with you I don't think I want a show truck.I see the street rodders go to shows. They get their ride out and clean it, they drive it very carefully to the show, they sit in the sun and get up occassionally to dust it off or polish a spot they missed earlier.

Piss on it. I have won scads of trophies and even had one in a magazine, but that crap gets old.

Build it, enjoy it, and piss on the other folks. Trophies take the fun out of the whole thing.

My favorite thing is to drive one of my old cars to a show and not register it. I have folks coming by all night telling me I need to register if I want to go for a trophy. I just tell them "no thanks, I'm here to have fun not compete".

That is the very best advice you can get. Build it how YOU want it, drive it and enjoy the hell out of it. My ol skool flatbed project got the second highest number of votes for fan favorite at it's first car show, but there is no award to that. I could care less if I get an award, I just love the atmosphere of the crowds and getting out to BS with other car buffs.
I know my truck is done in a style that is not everyone cup of tea, but I built it the way I wanted it. At the end of each day, it's you that is gonna drive that sweet ride home, trophy or no trophy, and you should be damn proud of what you have built there.

the thing is just like everybody else said, you drive for fun. it makes you happy! it is not a museum peice that you are afraid to even start, or touch the pavement! what good is it to build a truck or car that you have $30,000.00 in and can't drive it ?! I know when i finish with mine i still will drive it ,and do burnouts in it as well. trophies are nice, but big smiles ,ooh's ,aah's and a few da&#'s from the crowd is where it is at!

does you friends & family like it? we sure do!
I agree with Tx Firefighter. I used to have a '84 Grand Prix with a $4500 custom paint job. I drove it to a car show locally with friends. had a great time. went to go home & there was about 10 people standing around my car admiring it & asking questions. I had a hard time fitting my head in car afterwards.
my opinion is to drive to enjoy & the accolades will follow if you dont dig for trophies.

If you make car shows all about winning its gonna suck. In the last four years I have been to probably well over 200 shows. You will find that some shows have people judging that dont even know a truck from a car. Its not about winning but all about making new friends and talking to people about the thing we all like and come here for. The compliments you get far out weight any trophy you can get. Cruises are nice because around here there are no awards or judging. You have a very nice truck....go enjoy it.

If all you care about is recognition then your going for the wrong reasons. I go to enjoy meeting others and seeing what other people have doen to get ideas for things I want to do. I build my junk to please me. If others like great. If others like it and want to give a trophy...kewl, thanks, I'm honored but a trophy is secondary.

I agree with that.i have a 1966 MG Midget that I'm rebuilding. I didn't want to put the same crappy 4 cylinder in, so I bought a 3.4 v-6 for it out of a camaro. When i mention i'm rebuilding the MG I get lots of praisefrom MG owners and enthusiests, until I tell them about the engine. Then it's like I'm desecrating the car. WTF? I'm building it for maximum reliability and fun, not so someone can judge it as perfect.

Consider the thousands of members here on the board that think your truck is sweet and include me as one. You can't hang it on a wall but it's proabably the best kind of praise and recogniton one of these trucks can get.

Hey man, I agree with lock- Judging at shows is rarely fair. Especially small, hometown shows. I was one of four judges at a local show here a couple of months ago. Not a big show, 100 cars & trucks give or take, and I judged the paint. When it came time for the four of us to put our heads together and determine "Best of Show", two of the judges were stuck on a 2003 mustang cobra. Granted it was clean and had a lot of billit & chrome under the hood, but it wasn't old enough to get dirty yet. We had a pair of "oh-so-sweet" 34 fords that had to have at least $40,000 each invested and years of work, and these two guys were stuck on giving "Best of Show" to a "new" car. I gave them my vote and left before the presentations because I didn't even want to be a part in it after that. I was actually embarrassed that I was a judge at that point. Bottom line, your truck looks sweet and if you like it thats all the approval you should need...... Jerry

No sympathy here. Your truck looks alot better than mine. It's like a skinny girl complaining about feeling fat and I'm supposed to stroke her ego and tell her she "looks great". Quit whining.
