SpicedIcePirate's 1972 Longbed C10 5.3 Swap
New here, but have been lurking for a while, figured I should make an account o I could post up about a 5.3 swap I'm doing here soon. Got a deal on an engine, transmission, custom wire harness, and tune recently. As soon as the harness is done, the truck is going in the shop and I'll be doing the swap with my dad's help.
My truck currently has a 307 with a Rochester quadrajet and factory intake, with a built 700r4 transmission (didn't know if I was going to stay carb'd or not). I got to roll this engine over 100k miles several months after I got it, and it's been my daily for over a year now. It'll also be getting a new windshield and a rubber kit and such while it's down for the swap. I'll get pictures of the truck up here soon, and will update progress as I go. |

Welcome! Post up the pics...
Curious why swap the engine with just 100k on it? I assume it runs well? You already have overdrive. Just asking cuz a smallblock is good-nuff for me. |

Re: SpicedIcePirate's 1972 Longbed C10 5.3 Swap
Because the 307 doesn't have enough power for me, and I got a deal on the LS otherwise I'd take the 350 small block route. Same reason I have overdrive, third gear went out in my TH350 and I got a deal on a 700r4 and rebuild so I went ahead and upgraded. Figured I can make my money back and then some selling the engine/trans as a running unit when I pull it. The engine runs great, but does smoke a little bit, not enough to be worried about though.

Re: SpicedIcePirate's 1972 Longbed C10 5.3 Swap
Sorry about the ridiculous delay, I've been busy with work and school. But I finally can get the pictures off my phone and put them up, so here we go. Still the current setup as my dad was mid shop move, so I had nowhere to do any work.

Re: SpicedIcePirate's 1972 Longbed C10 5.3 Swap
So, truck was down and neglected for 2 years. Priorities have shifted all over the place.
replaced a trans seal and had the trans out twice in one week. Truck is now lowered with underglow on it. Same drivetrain. It may get to keep the 307 depending on how life goes now. Still have the 5.3, but may try to make money putting it something else that I don't want to keep a hold of.
