What's this on my coil??

I have this small cylinder that looks exactly like the condenser in the distributor only it's mounted as you see in the picture. Look's like there used to be a wire from it that is long gone. Was this an external condenser at one time?

you are correct this condenser is used to control electrical interference that would otherwise be picked up by the radio if you use an original am radio you will need this and it hooks to the positive side of the coil if your going aftermarket system it will not be needed hope this helps

Yeah.... I can't remember why that was there now. It's all been taken apart cleaned, painted and reassembled now. I'll post a new pic some day.

And he isn't even from Alaska. Those guys and gals know how to make use of duct tape.

Yep, that is/was a noise suppressor for the radio.
