Found my oil leak.
Last few weaks my truck has been leaking oil like a sap.I was messing with the carb today and noticed oil spewing out in front of the block every time it was revved up.There was a bolt missing kind of by fuel pump area.I dont know what that bolt is for.I got a bolt from a spare engine i had laying around.I just assumed my oil pan gasket was leaking.I wish i would have a found it when it started leaking.Would have saved me about 40 bucks in oil.

Re: Found my oil leak.
The old "bolt by the fuel pump oil leak" trick. Has happened to almost all of us at one point while workin' on Small Block Chevy's.
Welcome to the club. Gary.

Re: Found my oil leak.
DO NOT USE TOO LONG A BOLT
too long and it will hit the fuel pump drive rod and cause all sorts of fun problems

Re: Found my oil leak.
Yeah, that' particular oil leak has been discussed here many times. If you had posted the problem when you determined it was leaking you would have been inundated with the resolution replies.
As an fyi:. If you ever have to change the fuel pump, install a longer bolt there to hold the pump push rod in place before you remove it. Oh, and don't forget to put some sealant on the bolt so it won't ooz oil out.

Re: Found my oil leak.
Can you guys post a pic of the hole in question? I looked and there is a couple of holes on the front of the block that are empty but not leaking.

Re: Found my oil leak.
Make sure that bolt is a SHORT one, so that it does not butt up against the fuel pump push rod. I believe that bolt is a standard 3/8" SAE bolt, but for the need of just plugging the hole, it shold not be more that 1/2" long with some sealant on it.
