Earlier Door Panels In My 72 - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hi All,
I'm wanting to replace the original plastic inner door panels in my 72 3/4T with earlier flat metal ones. Any one been there/done that? Is it a straight swap or are there other parts I need to change as well? Any help or info is certainly appreciated. Thanks.

don't quote me on this but the 72 doors have longer window regulator pins that stick out and the door opening handle is longer as well ....so the window crank and handle might be swinging in the wind unless you chenge the regulators and door latch mech.....some one else will correct me if i'am wrong...i hope

Correct!

I just got done doing what the OP is asking. I just ended up buying doors to a 68 and ordering new regulators for it too. The metal panels have 4 screws on the bottom to mount and a metal strip at the top that is seperate with I believe another four screws. You can mount the metal panels on the 72 doors, just need to make the extra holes (I believe).

I was afraid of that. The real problem is those stinkin' thick door panels and the fat arm rest that gets all tore up as you reach for the left half of the seat belt. That designer sure had crap for brains. Why in the world would anyone think that decreasing the available space in a truck cab would be a good idea? DUH!!!
OK! I'm done venting now. Anyone know what the last year the shorter door hardware was used on? If it's available from the repop guys, it might prove to be the least amount of hassle both time and money wise. Thanks again for your help.

shorter stuff = any year before 1972...

sad but true - 72 is the only year for the longer door stuff.

it is available from the vendors - make sure to get the 67-71 door stuff (for the shorter hardware).
