8 lug power disc brake kits?

I would love to search this but it seems there is not a button for that right now. We just got a 67 c20 and it has manual drum brakes. I want to keep it 8 lug and was wondering who has the best kit out. I have only seen performance online kit. I like it cause it comes with ball joints and tie rod ends and the truck needs ball joints. Is that the only kit available? Sorry if it has been covered.

Re: 8 lug power disc brake kits?

these guys seem to have closed online but still list their store number. http://www.blackbirdscustomtrucks.com/index.html
They make a great rear wheel disk setup, don't recall if they make a front setup to replace the front drums on a 67 - might be worth a call tho.

Re: 8 lug power disc brake kits?

I have a 67 open road C30 conversion motorhome (Chubby) that has 4-wheel disc brakes. I'm parting it out in the for sale section... It's just an option...

Re: 8 lug power disc brake kits?

I haven't done this swap yet but I have a 69 c20 eight lug. I bought a 91 2500 suburban for parts with eight lug, disc and power steering. I also plan on using the 14 bolt FF posi in rear.

Re: 8 lug power disc brake kits?

If you have the Eaton rear then you can ise any of the disk conversion brackets for a 14 bolt FF.

A little tip, add "67-72chevytrucks" to a Google search on "rear disk conversions" or "Eaton disk conversion" or similar and a bunch of threads should pop up.

Re: 8 lug power disc brake kits?

I have a 68 gmc 3/4 ton and I am about to start my front disc conversion.
I was lucky enough to find a front end from a 1987 2wd suburban 2500 from Florida which I just picked up last week for 100 bucks and plan to start taking it a part this week.
I plan to replace the tie rods, ball joints, calipers, rotors, all bushings,(moog parts when I can) Then POR-15 the entire cross member and paint the Calipers. This method will also provide me with power steering.. I already had the brackets and pullys for the engine compartment from another truck so I will be set
I will use a master cylinder from performanceonline.com but will not be going with power brakes.
There are 3 preferred methods to do this conversion..
The first is to keep your 67 crossmember and replace your control arms, spindles, steering linkage etc with the donor parts from the 73-87 front end.

The second is to rebuild the donor cross member before installing, remove the entire original front cross member and place it the "new" one.. almost a direct swap other than drilling 2 new holes in the frame and "elongateing" 2 other holes.

The 3rd is to buy a conversion kit from a good vender and be done with it.
But at over a thousand dollars shipped the other 2 are worth a good consideration.
The pic below is my "donor" front end when I picked it up.
Also here is a few links with GREAT info, some may focus on half-tons but the conversion is almost the same.
Best of luck with whatever route you go!!!

This is the FAQ for disc conversions Great stuff!!>>>>http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=444823

Re: 8 lug power disc brake kits?

you might try a local junk yard. 3/4 tons are plenty because usually no one wants them. Disc brakes are standard on most of these older trucks past 1972. might be a whole lot cheaper too

It can be done using stock parts. I'd also suggest using the 71 up factory disc steering components too vs adapter parts.

Re: 8 lug power disc brake kits?

the kit I got comes with spindles and balljoints and tie rods. I am pretty sure it is factory components for newer trucks.

Re: 8 lug power disc brake kits?

Since they don't have the instruction sheet for that kit online I can't say for sure. But their kit parts list makes no mention of the centerlink. The centerlink on disc brake trucks are heavier. To adapt later spindles to drum centerlinks the 70 down outer tie rods are often used as inners to get the smaller stud diameter. To me a lot depends on how you are going to use the truck and if it will be upgraded with power steering as well.
