Question exhaust manifold paint?

What's the best paint to put on the stock exhaust manifolds that won't burn off or will stay on good? Thanks

All paint will burn off. BBQ black spray paint seems to last the longest.

Use that 1200 degree header paint autozone and wal mart sells Dupli Color Brand ive painted several sets of headers with it and there still truckin strong .. Silver isnt that great seems to flake off but the black does good.

On stockl manifolds, you can use pretty much any header paint with pretty good results. headers will burn most paints, but manifolds insulate more than thin walled headers.
What ever you use, read the directions. Some want to be cured ASAP, while others require no assisted curing.
Personally, i like the ceramic paint, it cures quite well, and I had the stuff live on a set of headers for well over a year once.
now if I could only remember the brand...
I highly recomend sand blasting the manifold before painting. Even if you have to pay a shop to do it, the results are well worth it.

I used a product called Calyx. It is a rub on product that cures when the manifolds heat up. I have to touch up my car a couple times a year, but since you rub it on, no overspray to worry about. Looks like an original cast gray color.

I WOULD USE THE VHT HEADDER PAINT JUST MAKE SURE TO READ THE DIRECTION'S... THIS PAINT SEEM'S TO HOLD UP REALLY WELL/

I used the por-15 factory manifold gray. I painted the manifold but havent run it yet. The finish looks great. They guarantee that it wont burn off.

If you can afford it....

I had my ram horns cermachromed. It's a ceramic hi temp coating (like powdercoat) with a satin chrome-like finish. No discoloration in two years. It cost me $200. I figured it was worth it, because I'd be fighting the same thing you are or I'd have blued chrome headers. Just a thought.

Has anyone used "SUPER CAST" Paint

Classic Industries has this stuff for sale but it is very expensive. It is about 70.00 dollars for a areosol can. But they claim that is good for extreme temps and is the colour of factory cast. I am interested to hear if anyone has tryed it.

I can also vouche for the por15 manifold paint. My friend used it on his Nova and it looked GREAT, never changed color, faded, or anything. Stayed the color he painted them.

I used Eastwood manifold paint on mine and have no complaints. This right manifold had been painted for about 2 years and still looked great when it broke. A year after this pic, the left one is starting to show rust through the paint, and I think it is only because it is more humid here in OK than it was in UT. To apply, all I did is clean with a wire wheel and paint with a brush. They have a few different colors, this is cast iron. Inexpensive, too.

I just got done using some of that eastwood paint that billogna used. My brand newly painted ones look just a good as his 2 year old ones,except mine are still in one piece.

I think so, but mine is in a pint size can so you can apply with a brush. I'm on the road, so can't check the garage, and I ordered it from their catalog, not the internet.

I also used the Eastwood stuff on my stock v-6 manifolds on my vega. It has been there for years and just now is starting to show age. Its still a lot better looking than most high temp paint after about a year.
I also bought a set a black ceramic coating ram horns on ebay for $30.00. (They were NOS when coated!! Never been used!!! Still can believe I got that deal) Havent put them on, but I will be interested to see how long it lasts.

I had a pro tell me to sandblast mine and dip them in diesel fuel. He said that's what they do at the factory. Anyone ever tried it?

Longhorn Man- It broke when the front of my muffler caught the ground as I was driving into an unfamiliar parking lot. I have 4" of ground clearance, not usually a problem, but that was a heck of a hump-dip combo.

Yes, I swapped my trans about 1 1/2 yrs ago.

Ok, I asked about the tranny swap becouse if you leave the engine unsupported with the tranny out, the exhaust ends up supporting quite a bit of weight and your manifold is broken in the exact same way as what mine did when I went through this.
