Re: Factory am radio upgrade
Gary Tayman converts them. Here is the link http://www.garytayman.com/stereo.htm I had my am radio converted 2 years ago and I LOVE IT. I had previously had a custom auto sound and I didn't like the sound or the look and then I came across Tayman electrical. Took him just under a month from the time I shipped it off to the day I got it back. I highly recommend him.

Re: Factory am radio upgrade
Wasn't on this site but seen a video where a guy took a AM 67-72 truck radio modified it for an aux plug in the backside. Said it only took 15 min to do. $3 for a aux plug from radio shack. His I-Pod in the video worked great thru the stock radio. Explained it was very easy to do told where to snip two colored wires solder in the middle and add the jack plug in. If so I don't think it is worth $500 for a radio replacement when you can add a jack for less than $10 to a working AM radio. Of course you won't have ultimate sound quality but his treble/ bass all worked well in his mod. And sounded decent too. I haven't done this but will look much deeper into it before I spent $500..That is enough to buy a complete set of Mar-K chrome kit..Just saying!

Re: Factory am radio upgrade
Yes you can and I guess it comes down to the question you gotta ask yourself and that is " Do I want to cut my dash ? "

Re: Factory am radio upgrade
And also with keeping the am radio and having it converted it is practically a new radio. You keep original things like knobs, face plate and push buttons but the entire radios internals such as worrying and circit board and case are all new.

Re: Factory am radio upgrade
If you are on a budget, Sammy raises a good point. You can easily install an input line in the AM radio. You then can buy a cheap MP3 that has FM capability and now you can play through the AM radio to your single speaker. For the MPS to work you must turn the AM dial to an empty/non-used spot on the dial, or you can unhook the antennae. Search this site for the input line installation. All together (if you did the work) with the MP3 you are looking at less than $50.

Re: Factory am radio upgrade
there are several radios available that do not require cutting dash.if it came to that I can find dashes pretty easily. searched for the input cable on forum with no luck.that sounds like the way to go. I guess you could add underseat speakers.

Re: Factory am radio upgrade
Go to the tech tips page it is one of the best places IMO. First go to the home page, look toward the top of the page to the left. Look for and click on the "tech tips". Scroll to the bottom of the page to "audio". Click on "audio" and it is the third or fourth post. The tech tips post are awesome and you can get lost reading all the amazing things people have found/researched/tried. I have went with the input jack mod. Stay well, Bruce

Re: Factory am radio upgrade
I replaced my am radio years ago. Lucky for me I kept it and will be re installing it. I figure if I need sound other than the engine, I can just bring a portable.

Re: Factory am radio upgrade
I believe you can also set up a Bluetooth in an old radio.....seem to remember reading that on another thread.
