value of a clean SB frame...
This question depends of course upon what someone's personal interest is, but I still need to ask it. How much would any of you spend on a very solid, clean maybe even partially re-built rolling chassis?
I have a LWB, but dream of one day owning a SB. Tomorrow I'm going to go get a close up look at a SB rolling frame that was part of a frame off rebuild that was never completed. This is why I am asking. It is for sale, but I'm not telling where... at least not yet.

I paid $125 for mine. Complete rolling chassis, no rust, needed most suspension components replaced as they were 30 year old originals. It was a 72 with disk brakes. I was happy

I paid $350 for mine. 5-lug all around, front discs, 3.08 open axle, painted with POR-15, and some new bushings. Not to mention the price included delivery!! I couldn't be happier!

looked
looked, nice site...good descriptions
The frame I am going to see has some new rally's on it with funky tires and possibly new brake lines and front suspension parts. I don't want the ratty cab resting on it or the parts stacked to the side, just the frame. Thanks.

Everybody always cries wanting short frames. I put one for sale on the parts board last week. Not one single person expressed any intrest. Nobody even made me a lowball offer.
I guess it's a regional thing.

I would say 350.00/400.00 would be close to fair considering what you have decsribed!jmo

regional thing
boo hoo hoo, w-a-a-a-a-a-a...
The problem is transportation and space when it comes to a "looking" for a SB frame for sale someplace. I am more than content with my very clean LWB, but someday I want the SWB. If I run into a clean one, then I'll snatch it up. (even though I do not have a good place to store it where I currently live) Since space is an issue, then the expense of finding one out-of-state and getting it here keeps me from tossing offers to anyone far from town, even in TEXAS!

I paid $125 for mine as CPNE did; it was rust free, had drum brakes, but had new sway bar and rear trailing arm bushings, posi 12-bolt, new tie rods and ball joints. I was pleased as well.
As said above, kind of, buying a frame, at least for me was more a matter of logistics, not price. I paid $125 from a 67-72 collector that was 2 hours away. If one were free in TX, I wouldn't even think about it. With big stuff, unless it is one helluva screaming deal that I can't pass up, like a 12k mile 4x4 Sierra Grande, free to whoever will pick it up in Alaska, I have no interest whatsoever in traveling any substantial difference to get parts. Granted, you're in TX, and it seems like everyone and their grandmother on this board is from TX or a bordering state. I'm surprised someone didn't snag it. |

I have seen them in the NW for free! That would untouched and unrestored but with parts like rusty bodies attached...still perfectly good frames! I saw one that was fully restored and painted with new brakes and suspension components including lowered springs and new steering gear, tie rods etc. The wheels were just rollers and they wanted $800 for it. I consider both of them were excellent deals! You can spend hundreds of hours cleaning, blasting, painting and replacing suspension components so do not underestimate the value of a cleaned and painted frame as long as it was done correctly. Just my 0.02!

free indeed...
Get this. I bumped into an owner of three of our trucks recently, so we had a quick discussion about parts. Apparently, about 1-2 miles from my house...about 2 months ago, there was an entire truck on the street with a "FREE" sign on it. I am not kidding. It was tagged to get towed away, so the PO put the sign on it, he didn't want it and didn't care. This guy went and removed as many parts from it as he could before it was taken away the next day. Missed that one- OUCH!
