I have its brother but mine cost less than that...and is in better shape...I think! Why do people have to do that to these Longhorns?

One thing I've always wondered, is why did they leave the seam exposed at the front where the extra 6" of box is? Was it just a regular 8' box with that piece added on factory to cut cost for GM, or was there a reason?

muddpile, It is just an extension to a regular long box. I'm certain that GM did not want to make new dies for the entire side so did the quick fix. Ford and Dodge did the same type of modifcation on their '70's Maxi-vans. For a limited production unit it is just too expesive to make those monsterous dies to stamp that sheet metal.
