Vintage Air and New crate Engine
I have a 71 GMC Jimmy with a SBC 350 and th350. I am considering putting in a new blueprint crate engine. I am also considering adding a Vintage air set up. This is a non-AC from the factory truck. I am wondering it would be beneficial to do the engine swap at the same time as installing the AC system or if it does not really matter.

JMHO, but I suggest you install one part of the plan -- either engine swap or A/C install -- first.. Get that working properly and then do the other.. Doesn't matter which one you do first.. With this approach, if you encounter any issues, they won't be coming at you from 2 different directions.

If you plan on using a Softopper, then don't waste your money on the AC. These aftermarket units don't have enough BTUs to cool what is basically a black tent.

Yeah, I understand doing it one at a time to diagnose problems and I definitely understand trying to cool a black tent. I currently have a bikini top and a double wall hard top so no softtopper. Ideally I would like a half top and I imagine the AC would work well with that but I think that is more of a dream at this point. My main concern is if installing the AC is easier with the engine out. Maybe it is not that big of deal.

My opinion is the AC is not any easier to install with the engine out. The only item to deal with, with the engine in is the compressor and hoses. I installed mine with the engine in and had no issues. The nice thing about these trucks is the amount of room to work.
