IHC resurection

well i figured its time for a build thread. i snagged up a 51 L112 over a month ago. basically im just going to update the m/t with a chevy 250/th350. wiring and lower italittle for now and then decide on other things later. so today i pulled the front sheetmetal off and have just the clutch and shift linkage to remove and the old m/t will be out

as of now i dont plan on it, just want to get it up and running, but hell that could change as i do know of a short bed in the local yard, but its from a 60's model and the rear fenders are different. even thought about giving a 3-4" haircut too but looking into other mods if i do that

Now you are talking. A little off the top would look good. As for the bed, You can easily take 12" of length out. From in front of the rear fender. And 6" or so from behind it then re-center the rear axle. Drop it on the ground and make it BilletProof. That would be sick!

the old m/t is out and have the chevy setup sitting between the rails, will be figuring out mounts later today and some new pics.

got the mounts tacked up today and its sitting on its own weight. need to do a trans mount yet and then think about how i want to drop it down some more. i did pull 3 leaves out of the front packs before, but the chevy setup is alot lighter then the IH m/t. so its bacically up to where it was before.

sorry no new pics as puter is acting up . i did manage to start wiring up the truck using a known good used harness from a late 60's early 70's chevy truck. i did manage to get it to fire up today. coil was shot i stuck in an HEI dizzy, im off like 1 tooth on the timing but it sounded good. will get pics asap

didnt get to much done but did pull the dash out and took gauges out and everything off the main dash panel itself. not sure what im going to do as far as gauges yet. there were 2 holes onthe fire that worked perfectly for the harness to go thu but not sure if i m going to keep them where thay are or put new holes in and move the stuff around. hope to get more done over the weekend

cool project. heres a few picts of a 51 I built for my uncle. Its a 56 front clip with a 51 cab and doors. the box was also from a 56 and I ended up building a new tailgate from scratch. I put the body on a 2002 sport trac chassis that I had to shorten 10 inchs. anyway heres a few picts for you. hope you like

havent had much progress on the IH since the motor id junk. also i been dealing with 83 GMC replacing the engine. so as soon as i get this done i will be geting back on the binder

Ive always thought the old IHC trucks had a look only a parent could love =) But I have seen quite a few lately that are really cool. Like the finished one yukon did above. Here are a couple of links I have saved on this computer you might find interesting.

I would probably pick up an old IH (or a Stude, I like those too) but I have way too many projects now Ill never ever get to.

well finally got my 83 GMC up and running this week and started messing with the IH. as i had mentioned before about the #1 cylinder valves stuck open and worried about the piston being messed up. well good news the piston is fine, no marks on it or rust in the cylinder. so now i need to pick up another head and gaskets for it and slap it back together. will also need to find a rad to mount to my stock support, gauges, driveshaft and a couple other odds and ends and maybe be able to move it around in my driveway in the next week or so. going to try to hook up the trans linkage to the stock 3spd column or build a crazy tall floor shifter.

well i got to tinker in the IH this afternoon. im looking to keep the str8 axel front suspension but of course it needs to be lowered. so today i pulled the spring packs out and apart to flip the main spring. now i did put alittle heat to the spring which isnt the safest way to go but i did it this way to get my stance and will have to have a new main redone. anyway a few pics, will get better ones tomorrow during the day.

nothing to spectacular to report. i did pull the vlaves out the head and got it cleaned up. need to clean up the valves, rockers and such and get it back together.

.... and most likely since i know the engine does run i will most likely pull it back out and get it all the gaskets replaced and everything painted.

well i got the m/t moved forward now by using the V8 towers. but now i did have to trim the cross support on the cab for alittle extra clearence so i can get the m/t to sit at the proper angle. will have pics tomorow evening.

well i wasnt happy with the way the m/t sat. so i modifyied the 6cyl. towers and trans crossmember which i had laying around here and now i have to my liking. still need to do alittle welding and grinding here and there but will finish that up when i get the cab back off.





at this point in gonna jump back on the body, starting with the right cab corner

managed to get the cab corner done friday after work.



had to set the running up to get an idea of the look. will definately be doing a 2" drop on the front.

well im back working on the IHC for the past few weeks now. bought a nicer cab for it from a L-170. just got the cab mounts figured out yesterday. now i am going to be running a V8 in it. been working on filling in a few holes on the firewall, got m/c brake pedel bolted up. gonna be getting steering column bolted in and a few other things tomorrow.

So......technically you have 2 trucks then! One IH chassis and cab, and another Chevy chassis and IH cab?
