center console
wondering what you guys have made for center consoles i am currently designing one so i can avoid cutting up doors or putting in kicker panel speakers and was thinking of putting them in a center console with a modern stereo so i can keep the original look of the dash without gashing a big hole in it for a cd deck.
ill share my design. Also wondering if speakers in that location will work?

Re: center console
I maybe a not over Ambitious with my idea I have yet to go actually take measurements the speakers being so close, is that an issues do they have to be decided in any way? I plan on just having 4" or 5" speakers in there

Re: center console
If done right a aftermarket radio looks just fine in the dash. Now if you want a Nav screen then by all means build a console for it! As long as there is enough air space in the console they will be fine.

Re: center console
there is plenty of room for speakers even 6x9's and if your not sure just don't seal them in or cut a hole or leave an opening for air to move inside console. I didn't put speakers in mine but I did add a subwoofer.

Re: center console
That looks like a might fine design. How would having a port in the console change the sound and quality of sound?

Re: center console
if the area is sealed and is to small for say a pair of 6x9's it might give you a lot of bass, not a lot like a sub but it might sound distorted a little. But that shouldn't be an issue like I said there is plenty of room, you would have to build a tiny console which it doesn't look that way. you can always build it and if they sound dull or don't seem like they are very loud just take a side off or drill out a large hole and try again.
