Hands down - The best oil to run in summer and winter is Mobil 5W30 Synthetic.

Running a 5-30 synthetic is dyno proven to give you 5hp over 10-40 regular oil, and it lubricates better. Trust me.

Depends on where you live, cold places need thinner oil. I live in a moderate climate, little to no snow and have had the best success with 20W50.

My truck gets 20w50 Valvoline MaxLife these days.
I'd run 10w30, but it's Arizona and that thing has enough trouble keeping its oil in without adding hot 10w30 into the equation. =P FWIW, the Camaro gets 20w50 Mobil1 synthetic - but that's because it's a rather common problem for LT1s to not build enough oil pressure with 10w30 synthetic. The Suburban has plenty of pressure with Mobil1 10w30 synth, though. Whenever I put a new motor in it, I'll switch over to 10w30 synthetic... ------------------ Project 1970 - soon to be seen at http://milhouse.treylis.org:81/

In TX I used to run Castrol 20w50. Up here that stuff turns into the La Brea tar pit so I usually do 5w40 and 10w40.
Filter = PF35 (more filtration than the 25). Kenneth

Valvoline synth 20-50. I like holding 50+psi on the oil pressure gauge all the time. Especially after an hour on the freeway and then pull into a gas station. 4500RPM tends to heat the oil up and I was running around 15-20PSI with 10-30.
Ususally Napa filters since nobody around has anything but that or Fram.

I use 20/50, I use it because it's thicker and therefore seals better. When I switched to it, the truck stopped using so much oil (leaking and blowby). AC filters all the time.
