NICE 68 swb on ebay (40K mi)

Not mine - somehow stumbled across this in my usual lwb Custom Camper and Cheyenne Super sweep of ebay etc.... You be the judge on whether the 40k original mileage claim is correct. But this seems like a potential for scooping a NICE survivor if a black w/red interior 68 swb is your cup of tea. Has original wheels and tires to go with it and the 327 is claimed original also with exception of top end misc. The mileage claim seems almost believable to me - the truck isn't PERFECT, but it's darn near if it is original. Interior looks like about 40K wear, so who knows. Body seems better than 40k to me though, as in repainted. But the claim is mostly original paint. Even if it's 140k, it's a nice truck. Current bid $5K and no reserve. I saw this on a Facebook page and they were asking $35k for it. Very nice truck, but I done see it bidding that high?

35K! No reserve, hope he's ready to sell for less. It is nice though! But who knows - I just clicked over here from the post that was talking about a BJ K10 that sold for nearly 40k.

Re: NICE 68 swb on ebay (40K mi)

I bet he ends that auction early since he doesn't have a reserve. I just don't honestly see it bidding anywhere near $35k

It is a nice looking truck - if that truck was fully loaded with options - it would bring more money. But as said nice looking truck.

140k based on that odometer being so out of whack. Looks like a solid $15-20g truck max.

The guys user name has funds[as in money] right in the title.[?]I would also wager that the truck gets pulled shortly before time runs out.

"No Reserve" doesn't mean squat. If the guy decides he don't want to sell at the auctions end, who is going to force him?

Re: NICE 68 swb on ebay (40K mi)

beautiful truck. i really like it. i won't nit pick it although there are certainly some things that are not 100% original. overall though it looks like a pretty nice survivor assuming the paint is 90% original as claimed. the rockers look original and in very nice shape. i'm going to guess the bidding goes to $16,500.

i actually believe the mileage, for this one reason right here...

Re: NICE 68 swb on ebay (40K mi)

yes - that same picture is what me think the mileage claim might be real.
Scott - I agree with you - sometimes it's nice to see a no-reserve bid going, but you are correct, folks don't really seem to stick to the intent of a no-reserve bid and end early. Then it will be back on ebay in under a week and the seller will think we forgot about it from the week before. Which would be an incorrect assumption. I get tired of seeing the exact same fishing expedition trucks showing up over and over and over on ebay. Sell it or get off the pot...

Re: NICE 68 swb on ebay (40K mi)

I didn't see the 'No Reserve' label in that Ebay ad?.....maybe he pulled it and put a reserve back on given the unlikelihood of a $35k sale.
I think it will top out and fade around the $14-$16k mark myself...but lets just see.
Its a nice truck, the mileage claim doesn't mean too much to me at that price range but it may be original?
Either way, worth watching for general interests sake.

Re: NICE 68 swb on ebay (40K mi)

If it has bids and doesn't say "reserve not met" right below the current bid price, I think that means there is no reserve or it's at least been met. When I first saw it, it was only at $5K, and it did not say "reserve not met" already.

Re: NICE 68 swb on ebay (40K mi)

Well, it might be an original mileage truck if he can prove it.

My 68' is an original 23,000 mile truck that I bought from the original owner with all the oil change and maintenance records from the Chevrolet dealer and also came with original bill of sale, owners manual, protector plate in his name and the window sticker. I even called the dealer to verify it because it seemed to good to be true. Of course they remembered the old guy and said yes he was a regular customer for many years. Service rep said he even tried to buy the truck from him back in the mid 90's. Of course my 68' is a driver quality truck but never hacked up or modified by the old guy.

Hard to dispute that type of documentation,,,,,,,,,,so they do exist out there but not many left.

But without any documented proof, I wouldn't take it as the gospel.

Re: NICE 68 swb on ebay (40K mi)

Interesting VIN on SPID. Looks to be traced over, and the 2nd to last number looks like a 0 on an 8 or 9. Doesn't necessarily mean something suspicious.

I'm the high bidder and may end up owning it. Does anyone live/work close enough to Wichita Falls, TX to take a peak?

Very interesting 68. It's all in the details. I suspect you're right.

Wow you are brave. I'm a newbie and would be scared to bid $20K on something sight unseen. Obviously you can tell a lot more from pictures than me. What criteria do you use when making a bid? Regardless, good luck.

Yep, I always wonder just how people really are.. No way to know. But I was watching a SWEeet 74 K20 Camper Special on ebay that had no reserve and got bid up well past my comfort level - was happy for whomever won the bid. And now, all of a sudden, it's listed again. I know buyers sometimes flake out, but I would imagine it just didn't meet the 'silent' reserve. I would think that ebay would do well to restrict re-lists for at least a little while when the reserve has been met - but then again, there's just no way to prove a seller didn't run away. Perhaps opening an ebay case against a flake buyer would be what allows the truck to be relisted. I dunno, just kinda gets my gizzard.

EDIT: I have a philosophical question that has nothing to do with trucks... How come elementary schools have a policy that kids must learn to play a 'recorder' for music class? It's like a cruel prank on parents after a long day's work.
